Could be seen as a project by someone like Adkins. I think he'd take them down with dignity and bring them straight back up playing decent football
McDermott is a nice guy. Maybe too nice for a club with yet another Abrahmovich jnr behind the scenes. Theres always at least one club that do this every year now, has it ever worked? Wolves anyone?
Think they have the weakest team in the division and has done well to still be in with a chance of safety at this stage. Think he'll get a good job in the championship though.
9 games left is a stupid time to sack a manager, they've done what Wolves did and imo are 100% going down now.
The thing is, he was really popular among the players. I know Jason Roberts always spoke really highly of him, will be interesting to see whether the new manager will have the players behind him.
He could take the Leeds job if Colin fails to get them into the Play-Offs and the Prem and jacks as he says he will. Adkins to Reading - good call.
Interested to see who they get in. A manager with ability to get you promoted to the Championship and narrowly miss out in the playoffs finals in the space of two seasons is not an easy find.
Brian McDermott departs Reading Finally came ... perhaps still in the job so long out of loyalty by the Russian president ... but was it too late to save the Royals? What's your opinion on a change of manager at the taoil end of the season? Quotes/Opinions from the Media: Inside Football It remains to be seen who Reading will bring in, but the new manager will have precious little time to guide the Royals to safety Irish Examiner He guided Reading back to the top flight last season for only the second time in their history but has been relieved of his duties as the club look to turn around their form in time to secure Premier League survival. San Francisco Chronicle McDermott had been in charge since 2009 and took Reading back into the Premier League. Reading says "in our current situation, owner Anton Zingarevich felt that a change was necessary." Daily Express The managerial merry-go round had already already seen casualties this season in the Premier League with Mark Hughes, Roberto Di Matteo and Nigel Adkins being given the chop. And McDermott, who for some have felt the writing has been on the wall for him, was given his P45 after a poor sequence of results. Reading Evening Post Brian McDermott has been sacked by Reading FC with Alan Curbishley the bookmakers' favourite to replace him. Joe.ie The powers that be at Reading have decided that they need a new man to help them beat the drop after parting company with Brian McDermott today. McDermott wasnât known to be in danger of losing his job with the Royals, but speculation about his future at the club began to increase earlier today when the odds of him losing his job plummeted and betting was eventually suspended as his fate became clear. The Independent The decision, with just nine games of the season remaining, will come as a surprise. Despite Reading's difficulty on the pitch following their return to the Premier League there has been a well publicised good team-spirit at the club. And with so few games of the season remaining, any incoming manager will struggle to make a swift enough impact. ---------------------------- I think Zingarevich has been extraordinarily patient, he's been a 'fan' himself long before taking ever, ever since schooldays in fact. On forums, many Royals were talking about this openly late November/December. But has the loyalty been too strong?; I believe there's too little time now, but hope I'm proved wrong. McDermott has been a fantastic servent to the club, not only as manager but in previous roles spanning more than a decade. So pretty sad too ...
I still think it's a crazy decision. I haven't seen any signs that he'd lost the dressing room, and with the players at his disposal I don't think he could have got much more out of them. I guess they're hoping a new manager will bring that 'bounce' that is often seen, but unless they have a new manager in place before the next game, I'd say the chances of that happening are slim. Wolves seems to be the most obvious comparison here, very curious to see who they bring in. Atkins would be very interesting, but I feel he'd rather take a club up and try to keep them up, than take one down and try to rebuild.
alan curbishley always seems the bookie's favourite to get "the job" but he never does. I fancy someone crap but foreign like Jan Molby
May work in our favour if this leads to a Wolves-style collapse and Reading get left behind at the bottom. If we can win the home game against them, I think one more win or three draws should be enough in the other 8 games.
To be fair, I think Di Canio is a risky one. He seemed to have the players behind at Swindon majority of the time and there was a state of togetherness, he seemed to get rid of anyone who may upset the rhythm. He could work, but it's one hell of a risk Reading have taken. I like Di Canio and hope he does well is he does take over.
