just looked at the official brentford site with a view to going tonight, where it said there were no plans for an inspection, but that the pitch couldnt take mutch more rain,.... its currently peeing down roundsabout, must be a doubt.
Don't know if you saw the Bees v Gills game last Friday on SKY but the pitch by the end of the match was cutting up pretty bad. However, the game went ahead despite it chucking it down, but that was probably because the cameras were there. They've had 3/4 days to sort the pitch out since, not long enough i would imagine with the constant rain. Will probably be a mud bath and the final shout will be down to the referee you get. Our game at Stevenage few weeks back got called off because the ball didn't bounce, despite Luton being worse but their game kept on, and guess what...it was on TV! However, for the Stevenage game we did have that prat D'Urso!...I need say no more.
Pitch is still playable and will be unless there is a downfall this afternoon.. http://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/news/article/pitch-bristol-city-28.01.14-1321912.aspx please log in to view this image
I'm working in Barnet and it's not rained here today since around 07.20. Brentford is only 10 miles away to the south so fingers crossed. We need to get this one out of the way tonight even if we lose, and the pitch could be a leveller. What we don't want is a fixture backlog and we already have 3 games in hand over the likes of Notts County
Yea!....a ground with floodlights how they used to be! Ahhh the memories....jumpers for goal posts anyone?
Past it's best before date? I wonder where there are similar stadia? By the way, I read recently that Brentford plan to build a new stadium about half a mile away on former GWR land at the site of the now defunct Old Oak Common engine sheds. Bet it's finished before the two in Bristol!
I liked it, can always remember seeing Basso's face coming out for training. Was only a few days before that he said he wanted to leave. Good ground and was the first time I saw city win away
I also remember at Brentford a guy sat a couple along from me in an upper tier opening a Mars bar, taking a small bite pushing it back in the wrapper and proceeding to throw it in to the away fans to our left, Well, bemused, I followed the flight of the Mars bar in to the away fans where it hit a 30 something bloke straight on the bridge of the nose drawing blood. the original thrower had nonchalantly continued to watch the game whilst I had caught eye contact with this now fuming bloke who automatically assumed it was me.. To say he wasn't happy is a massive understatement, I was sure we were gonna bump in to each other outside and ending up rolling around the place.
I know this is somewhat against our principles, but if the pitch is really heavy lets hope we have some no-nonsense clearances from our defence. Passing the ball out from the back neatly on the ground is only fine when there aren't lakes for the ball to get stuck in.
