No easy game this one, the Bees were robbed at Huddersfield a couple of weeks ago and have to say looked a decent side. As for us will all seven new men by playing on Staurday. Morgan and Coutts suspended, there may even be the sighting of the lesser spotted Iain Hume. Finally Westley has removed the captaincy from Coutts which to my way of thinking means Coutts's is not a happy bunny. Sadly think the visitors will win but strangely quite looking forward too this one.
It will be a superb night for football tomorrow with a warm night in store, I'm off to Deepdale and the beautiful game will not be in evidence there, unless Brentford play it. The word on the streets is that Mellor, Hume and Coutts will be gone in close season which will leave us with exactly what? The 3-1 win over the Bees seems light years ago, they have lost top scorer Gary Alexander to Crawley so they may be a bit light up front. Suspect another draw will there be goals in it doubt it we had two on Saturday. The last winnable home game of the season after that it's Franchise, Huddersfield and Charlton and zero points await from those games.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, this one comes along. Brentford eased to a 3-1 victory over a depressingly poor Preston side. Although to be fair it started slightly better than normal, that is until Brentford scored after 9 minutes. After early home pressure a ball down the middle of the pitch caused chaos although have to say Donaldson looked offside, he advanced on goal only to be thwarted by keeper Stuckmann, the ball was never properly cleared and a cross was finally blasted into the net by Logan. Donaldson again burst through the centre of the defence again to be thwarted by Stuckmann, this only delayed the inevitable by a few minutes qhen a clumsy foul by Devine gave Brentford a penalty. Donaldson chipped it down the centre. (0-2) The hapless Devine was soon substituted and his replacement Holryod nearly dragged the home side back into the game however his shot hit the post. A goal for the home side arrived just before half time when Cummings was bundled over in the box and Parry scored. (1-2) The game became slightly fractious towards half time as the frail Bees players seemed to have difficulty adjusting to Northern air. Back in the game were the home side until Brentford scored a third just after half time, a schoolboy defensive error it would have been but that would have been an insult to schoolboys. A free kick was chipped into the area, not one home player moved, Donaldson from close range nodded home (1-3) The last 35 minutes were painful for home fans in the attendance given as 9000 as the home side gave an impression of football played by an under 5 side. Kick in the air and hope for the best, Brentford meanwhile started to waste time, go down injured for no apparent reason and generally prat about, they didn't need to they had already won with ease. They could have had a 4th in the dying minutes but the shot cleared the bar by miles. Major dissent from the home supporters, and the chairman sat stony face in his seat in the stand for 45 minutes afterwards. GRIM Preston North End 1 Brentford 3 Att 9000 less about 2000
