http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...-with-three-more-new-recruits-91466-29263090/ First time I've heard him mention a combative midfielder since Senna talks. Is this a sign that the Evil Genius won't be back anytime soon?
What would Senna have done for us against Man City. Maybe he might have been worth splashing the cash for. This public statement serves to validate the postings of many over the last couple of months. But where do we find the individuals that can make an impact. In midfield, we're all stocked up on "cover", it's "impact" stock we need and that doesn't come cheap and it isn't available often.
What would Senna have done for us against Man City? Probably not much the way they turned it on 2nd half.
Relief - yes Yankee many of us on here have been stating this for a while BR isnt talking about "cover" - he's recognising publicly that we are short (pun unintended) of muscle to complement the "control" game/players we already have. Cant wait to see how this one develops as Im sure he has someone in mind (possibly a Caulker-esk scenario ie big athletic young gun with the potential to develop into a midfield tyro under BR's guidance...? / or a seasoned campaigner on the cheap - but who??)
Of course Senna would have made a difference (you should revisit the YouTube performance vs Barca as a reminder) Hence why BR is looking to strengthen in precisely that department
anyone who thinks older genuine quality player's would'nt make a differnce is mad, granted they may not have the pace, but postional sense and passing get better with age not worse, remember tommy hutchinson or jan molby.
in an ideal world we need 2 strong pacy midfielders and 2 tall strong defenders....overall we are a small (in hight) team.....i hope we can get some of these players before the window shuts....
Senna would have made no difference whatsoever against City, there will be teams with better players in every position that go there and get well beaten this year. We could have had Messi, Rooney or Ronaldo in there and would have still got beaten by 3 or 4. Could his experience and ability make a difference over a season? Definitely but it was too big a risk to obliterate our pay structure for any player, let alone one with no track record in the premier league (and yes that does matter, plenty of very good players fail to transfer success).
i'm not saying having senna would have got us something at man city, what i'm saying is we may not have lost by 4, he's someone who would know when to slow things down, wise to all the tricks/cons/time wasting techniques(which is a massive part of the game nowadays), he'd have confidence, would'nt be intimadated by big names, which would rub off on our younger player's.
My use of the word Senna seems to have sent this thread off topic. I am more concerned that this means Bodde will not be playing again. And if Buck is thinking of replacing him, we are gonna have to spend pretty big to replace him with similar quality.
Agree Leeeon - coming up with a shortlist would be interesting [A similar thread attempted this however it too got sidetracked (bizarre how some consistently seem to miss the point)] Does anyone have access to the list of available players so we can compile a shortlist?? I know Gomez doesnt possess the muscle we need but now has prem experience - keen to see today how he has evolved, he had a canny knack of governing the middle of the park....and fitted our style perfectly - not saying he's THE answer but interested to see how he plays against us and how our midfield responds
For me neither of the players linked to us today (Lansbury and some Dutch dude) fill me with excitement. Lansbury is a tidy player, but we've got tidy midfielders. We need players who are going to fight for the ball in the middle of the park, and not be at a disadvantage from the off by being, well, tiny.
Number 10 everyone is available given the right price, no point going on just free agents IMO because there is normally a reason they have been released, too old and not good enough are two such examples.
Well one of them isnt going to be until almost the close of the window i reckon. Reason being it gives brendan time to get a better idea of the 1 other premiership loanee we are allowed. If its midfield its going to be McEachran if defence its going to be Bertrand IMO. Anyone see the Daily Mail link that is linking us to Den Haag DCM??
