Will he succeed where Kenny failed ?

He is a good manager but has very limited experience in the top flight. He got Swansea to work as a team, will be interesting to see if he can get the Liverpool players to do the same. But, if he does not get enough money to improve their current squad, then no.

It's unbelievable the amount Liverpool have spent and gone backwards. Rogers will want to put his own stamp on Liverpool, but I'm not sure how much the board will be willing to open their wallet again. That said, I think he'll be able to get the best out of the players he's got - and Swansea play some good creative football, so all the ingredients are there, but as I said, it's a big step up and the expectation levels will be massive.

Not good for Liverpool, he's done amazing at Swansea, but that doesn't mean he can do the same for Pool, two very different clubs with two very different expectations. It's Roy Hodgson all over again.

The fans will determine how successful Rodgers is, they gave Hodgson no respect and no time yet gave a washed up ex-hero every ounce of support they had.
I get the feeling that Rodgers could be hounded like Hodgson was if/when things go wrong, they could dig up Phil Thompson or Sammy Lee or any of their 80's stars and they'd have more chance than anyone not previously associated with the club.
And of course their CEO has now set the target by saying that Champs Lge qualification isn't a goal it's a minimum requirement, 7 into 4 don't go......

    Hopefully we give him time.

I think a lot of the pressure comes from the insistence of the media that the fans are putting pressure on, conversely.

Swansea are a team of under-rated, highly-motivated players, whereas Liverpool are a team of over-rated flops.

It doesn't look good, but maybe Rogers can bring them down to earth and show them how bad they are. Then they might want to improve, and could actually do some damage.

  8. He's a much better manager than Dalglish - who has been awful for Liverpool. Back in the late 80's he did build a great side, but I think he was out of football for so long he was a bit behind the times when he came back. Awful character too (at least in front of the camera's)

He can only be an improvement on Kenny "nobody understands a word you are saying" Dalglish - who supported a racist player and then tried to play the victimised.

I think what Rogers is doing and his philosophy on football is commendable, well done Liverpool for a bit of lateral thinking.

  10. Yes I forgot about Dalglish's support of Suarez - pretty disgusting. but that goes for the whole Liverpool team, including players like Gerrard.

While I'm sure Suarez said something out of place, I don't think he's a racist. On the other hand, I know Evra is a nasty piece of work based on the things he's said in the press and his exploits in WC2010. Evra is just a more calculating asshole. So I don't blame Dalglish for defending his player. To condemn him would have been terrible for Liverpool.

  12. Rubbish - Saurez was found to have been racist and got banned for 8 matches. I dont like Evra, he's a sneaky so and so, but dont let that cloud the fact that Saurez got banned for racism, and Dalglish and the whole Liverpool team would not say one word to denounce what he did.

So how does he play with Glen Johnson in his team? I simply don't believe he is a racist. I think he said something that would have sounded perfectly fine in Uruguay, which in our country got blown up by political correctness. It was a culture shock. Also, given what I know about Evra, I think he had a much bigger part in this. He probably knew the lack of intent behind Suarez's remarks and acted like it was more than it was. The guy is a calculating, sneaky asshole, whereas Suarez is just an idiotic asshole who got punished by him.

And, for that matter, how the **** is JT a racist?... hugging Drogba and what not. As much as we like to condemn players who play for other clubs, I think it's more important to be objective on matters like this.

  15. John Terry called someone a black **** and plays in the same team as Drogba. What's your point?

Neither of them are racists, they're just morons.

  17. I think if you say something racist you are indeed a racist.

    <applause>

    Well said.

And to Jayram, he wasn't banned for racism; he was banned for using 'racist remarks'. Barking five, seven or ten times does not make you a dog. Besides, most of his family, his friends from Ajax, the Uruguay national team and at Liverpool are black. They all supported him 100%.

Anyway, back to Rodgers - I like him, and I hope we give him time. My one worry is that he won't attract the signings we need, but we'll see.

    Broken and poor logic.

More tellingly, I think you'd have a more flexible view if it was RVP against Evra.
