Hello, Swans fan in peace. Well, lads, as you could understand me and the majority of Swans fans are understandably gutted. However we know if we can get a similar manager who knows what he wants and where to take us we'll be fine. Laudrup would be fantastic....(yeah we can dream) The problem is Brendan may have just thrown his job away. As we all know FSG as utterly ruthless and if liverpool aren't floating around the top 4 then he's gone. I'm just not sure you are ready for the style of football. Firstly, you don't have a leon britton type of player. Luca leiva is great player, no doubt, but would he want to be stuck in the Britton role cleaning up and making the easy pass all the time? I doubt it. Then, the wingers, the sinclair/dyer/routledge job. Seeing as you need these type of players (you have none, suarez could maybe fit, downing is useless) you'll have to pay a hell of a lot, especially if you want to be top 4. I doubt you could install two top class wingers with all the other improvements you need. Then the central striker. You may have paid 35mill for Carroll, but I'm not sure if he can play as the link-man in a new formation, dropping deep and being a pseudo-target man. It's a tough job and Danny Graham did it fairly well, I'm not sure if Andeh has the work rate needed. Honestly, I hope Brendan (and therefore you) do well, and I'd thank him personally for getting us so far.... But if he comes for any of our players (including not yet signed Siggy) then his legacy at the swans will be destroyed without repair. You can have Sinclair though.
Theres nothing to say he will just copy Swansea's tactics. In fact, if he just copies Swansea's tactic, every one will know how we play and how to counter it. That leads to failure. Brendan Rogers will adapt.
I totally agree with your assessment of our wide men and I share your thoughts of the central forward. I think Suarez can adapt to one of the wide roles comfortably though. He presses heavily already, has the link up play needed and works hard for the team. However, I disagree on your assessment of Lucas, I think he does what Britton does already, maybe even better. His passing is quality, he is our most disciplined midfielder by far and is top notch at winning the ball back and cleaning up play. Incidently, you don't rate Sinclair?
Brendan isn't an adaptor, as shown throughout his career. Reading weren't suited for him, so he failed there. If you don't give him the money and time to get the team the way he needs it then he'll fail at liverpool as well.
Nah I do rate Sinclair.... but not as highly as most other fans at other clubs, if people seriously think he's a 10mill player then you're over-rating him. Was great in the championship, will become better, a decent penalty taker but not as good as many think. He doesn't have a left foot either, and is fairly inconsistent
Dont think Lucas will have any probs with the Britton position, can also see Stevei palyin there as he gets older if Lucas gets injured We do need a Central Striker, and attackin midfielder, and at least 1 wide player though, but we knew that before we got Brendan Id love Moutinho 4 attackin mid, prefer Matias Suarez to Gaston R for the wing forward, and would like Leandro Damiao for the central striker position but he may be out of our reach Think Sterling is more likely to be successful in a 433 than Downing Can see Maxi,Spearing,Adam all being off loaded and maybe Kuyt depending on who we get in
To be fair mate he's been doing that for us anyway for the best part of 2 years. He's just a level above Britton in the role (no disrespect to him) and he does what Britton does and more. He's got the added ability of constantly being able to stretch play and thread passes in the final third, something that Britton isn't so good at. I have a feeling Lucas was the type of player Rodgers' Swansea were missing. The midfielder who can move the ball quickly and with accuracy from the midfield to attack. Swansea had a lot of pace to use on the counter attack but because of the midfields lack of ability to thread long killer balls they failed to utilise it, and it was partly responsible for their teams low goal tally, IMO anyway. The main thing Swansea had that Liverpool didn't last season, was partnerships in the team. Allen/Britton, Taylor/Sinclair, Rangel/Dyer and Williams/Caulker/Vorm all had a brilliant understanding between each other. Apart from Agger/Skrtel our team looked like they were playing with each other for the first time ever in most games. Enrique/Downing, Henderson/Johnson, Suarez/Carroll and Adam/Gerrard/Spearing failed to build any sort of understanding between each other. Was the understanding between the Swansea players because of how excellent they were coached or was it simply because they'd played with each other for a long time and weren't rotated as much as the Liverpool team? Who knows, but its one thing Rodgers must improve on in pre-season. Apologies I'm rambling on a bit here but I'm really intrigued to see how Rodgers does at the moment even though I wasn't very keen on him when first linked. Dunno if its me trying to be an optimist because he's now appointed our manager but I can't wait to see what he'll do to the team.
I agree with the Swans fans, we need to be ready for a big change and so do our players. Rodgers is going to change things and we will be playing a similar style to Swansea next season. This is where Rodgers can take it on, Lucas can pass and defend, he will be essential to the new Liverpool. In front of him is important Gerrard is class and will easily adapt, so will Suarez and Bellamy. Sterling is now gold dust as he fits the style of play.
