Another well spoken interview from BR. Key points from the interview are: Looking to bring in 3-4 signings Luis Suarez will be offered a new contract
well i think the suarez thing is hardly interesting seeing he signed a 6 year deal so must have 4 full years left, then at least he is saying he wants 3-4 players again... having lost kuyt it's obvious what he needs so i think they should just get on with it over the course of this next month. august is not the time to be bringing in 3/4players.
I agree. Dirk's already gone....Maxi likely to go plus you have the entire Cole and Aqua saga.....Really not sure how Carroll will fit into his system either, despite his much improved form......can add Bellamy (age), Spearing and possibly Adam and Downing to the list......That's without the likes of Suarez/Reina pushing a move through! I don't think it's going to be hard to find another 3 tbh
If Rodgers is really true in a statement that he wishes to define a a "Liverpool way" of playing that is consistent with both our traditions and his own philosophies then, I am not so sure that Carroll would be such a miss-fit. However, I do agree that there are loads of possibilities out there - hence my attitude towards Sig.
I think Carroll can play that kind of football - he is a pretty tidy player imo, get him furthest forward with Suarez one side and a new signing on the other. Good to hear him say about bringing 3 or 4 in - think a few of us can relax a bit and enjoy the inevitable 1000 players linked to us due to this interview
Llorente is hardly small, playing in a very technical Athletic Bilbao team that relies on passing. He hasn't suffered because of it, Andy may just have to work on his technique a bit in order to come up to the standard Rodgers will expect.
I think Carroll could fit in, but I'm not sure if he'll ever be a natural in the style. Someone like Cavani is the best example of the ball playing target man - the presence of Carroll and a fantastic touch. Or Ibra for that matter. But, this is our lot.
Carroll doesnt make p\layers do long lobs. In fact I think he would p\refer it if they didnt. Carroll could be very good in this system. Its more imp\ortant that he gets sup\p\ort from midfield and wide.
Carroll? Tidy?! not at all! Carroll is a good player but he is a traditional, lumbering, powerful CF. his control and first touch is shoddy, he has no pace and he can't pass well. His advantages are that he holds the ball up well, muscles through defences, heads the ball well and shoots well. It is not a criticism it's just the type of player he is and I can't ever seem him fitting into our system whereas at Stoke he'd be there main man and a legend.
This: always annoyed me when people talked of removing a big man (thinking of Crouch here) because certain players insisted on hoofing the ball to him as soon as he stepped on the pitch. Personally I think it highlights the 2 dimensional thinking that these players have. It is these players you should focus on in training & replace if they can't change.
You dont have to play long balls just because you have a big striker. If we work the ball into final third and play balls into the box for him from final third only I'm sure he would be very successful. Certainly a good option to have but that said I'd like and think we will see him start the season on the bench. I'd rather see a more dynamic front 3 with Suarez leading through the middle. Get some quality up there with him Sterling, Bellamy,Sigurdson/Ramirez/Jovtevic (If we get any of them), perhaps Gerrard if he still has the legs to get up there.
In fairness to Carroll, several times this season he's picked up the ball and pinged 50 yard passes off his left foot that make you think 'bloody hell who is this?'. Hope he does fit in. His confidence will be up after the Euros.
carroll: 1. can hold it up and lay it off (when concentrating) 2. can run the channels (if only someone would get in there when he does) 3. has a hammer of a left foot 4. heading is an obvious talent if inaccurate and needs work on consistency. all in all mr shearer was a classic english CF. this guy could be great if he works hard, its up to him... but i see dalglish, and hodgson basically not backing him so why wass he not the no 1 pick over welbeck? what is it that doesn't inspire managers? will rodgers back the guy and get 20 goals out of him?
No I disagree, taking every minute he was on the pitch for England during the Euros I could count on one hand how many times he lost the ball. He was controlling, looking up and linking up extremely well.
lumbering is what he WAS when he was unfit. he is now fit and not making bad passes, no getting the ball, not moving.
Carroll has definately improved 10 fold since he joined - which wasn't difficult as he was sh1te. But credit to him and he now looks like the dominating CF we expected. Do I think he will be spearhead of our new attack? No. Do I think he has some part to play in this squad? Definately - if he not Plan A, then he is a Plan B for sure and provides us with another dimension to our game. Could do with a fast striker to give us some pace to our attack.
