A bit of complimentary light reading about our 'little' club and it's location http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Brendan-Rodgers-Premier-League-survival.html Just a few snippets-- 'The wasteland that was once the Hafod Copperworks has been seen as a metaphor for the city's football club but Swansea City never really enjoyed a golden era from which to decline' Brendan-'This is one of the most beautiful cities I've been to. It's absolutely incredible but if you weren't coming for the football you might not come here. Author-'From the sweep of the spectacular beach adjacent to the city centre in Swansea Bay, to the Gower Peninsula beyond, they can lay claim to be the most beautifully-located club in Premier League history.' 'We always felt that where we live is more or less forgotten in the rest of Britain,' said chairman Jenkins. 'The lack of investment and the perception that we are out on a limb has probably been with us all our lives. So the fact that we've achieved this and become the first Welsh club in the Premier League, and achieved it against all odds, gives you a huge sense of pride in our area and city.' Brendan again impresses with his PR skills and it's refreshing to yet again be credited with being a club that relies heavily on it's support base and the supporters trust
It's funny how things change. On your link above, have a look at the Top 5 in Oct 1983... Swansea, Spurs, Ipswich, Forest, West Ham. Not sure why BR thinks Swansea is such a beautiful city though. The vast majority is a complete dump, including the city centre.
Could it be because he sees the place for what it is, there are very many lovely parts of Swansea and there is a lot there beyond pubs, clubs and restaurants, a lot of people go for a slower pace of life in Wales and can see beyond a city centre much like a carbon copy of other city centres ! It's not until you come to Swansea as a tourist that you appreciate it for what it is, I did it many years ago with my wife who was not from the UK
Yes, that's true. Sometimes you can know a place too well. If you lived on the west side and never ventured east, then it might seem quite nice. But you'd still need to trek all the way to Cardiff to do some decent shopping. But if you like the sea and country then a house in Gower would be ideal. What area of Swansea does BR live?
Decent shopping ? Swansea has plenty of all kinds of shops spread out yes but they are there, for most things there is still the net it matters little where you live in the UK , people who run down the city only see the bad things and completely ignore the very good things in the area, I work all over Wales in my job and go into England as well, and many many people only have positive things to say about the area. Not everyone is looking for the same things you are in life, football players lives for example revolve around training, playing, promoting, and travelling around Britain there is little time for them to be anything other than professional sportsmen, all they are after is the same as everyone else a secure job that pays well
As has been said, there are naff parts of Swansea, but they are easily outweighed by the surroundings. I often think the reason Swansea is, on the whole, a very relaxed city is because anyone who has moved here hasn't done it for work, because...well...there isn't any! Thus anyone who has relocated here has done so purely because of the surrounding environment. On the topic of the thread, it's another nice interview from Brendan. He really seems to like it down here!
Thankfully, whether a place is a good place to shop in or not is not a factor when deciding if a place is beautiful. Beauty is all about the surroundings, views and landscapes. Swansea has those in riches.
Casual, are you trying to say that we are the only city in the world with naff parts! Every city has exactly the same when you know it well enough, the majority have a lot worse. Every city doesn't have Swansea Bay; the Gower; the values to work to live, as opposed to living to work; better value for your pound as it's cheaper; nor the Jack/Welsh personality. Every city doesn't have the Super Swans.
