http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...pool-midfielder-jordan-henderson-8856987.html Nice stuff about Hendo, but "A false winger who comes in from the left"? Eh? Generations ago, Ray Kennedy played that role, as did Ronnie Whelan later. We called it left-midfield. As Kenny said, you can't re-invent football. Please don't go complicating it either.
I bet he drives a horse-inspired metal-shaped false moving carriage to Anfield every day. It's what he meant that's scary. Henderson isn't anything close to a winger. Henderson is best at RCM. He's a victim of his own versatility, like Gerrard is at international level. I hope BR doesn't stifle his development by playing him in non optimal positions because he's not bad at any of them.
To be fair... Gerrard moved around abit... He started off as a defensive midfielder and played a little like Jay Spearing. He then started to move forward and became phenominal. But he has played a vast array of roles including RM, a secondary striker, three differnt central midfield roles. Hasn't he even played as a right back before? I feel adding versatility may add something to Henderson's game. It is important that he establishes the centre of the park as his primary position though.
I actually like Rodgers's comments - he's a modern day manager which is what we need. The game has changed a lot since Kenny's days and I think it's refreshing that we have a manager who studies the game and the modern way of playing.
He can call it the unicorn power formation for all I care, as long as eventually gets the best out of players. As for Hendo, well he's going to have to put up with it while Gerrard is an automatic pick. I'm mean he's not going to replace a fit Coutinho or Lucas either so......
I agree with this but can't see Henderson (who I am a fan of) become a main stay in the centre, especially alongside Lucas (also a fan of). Neither of them standout as a automatic top four player to me.
I see where you are coming from...but then I think about uniteds midfield and they won the league last year. As for Brendan re-inventing the wheel...I guess it doesn't matter if he believes it or even if any of us believe it if he can get the players to buy it then that's what counts.
True but look at it this year. I believe the team ethic is more important than individual players (see my small, medium and large cogs theory) but with Man Utd, a lot of credit belongs to Fergie for getting them performing to the level they did. Its not impossible to replicate but it is very difficult and much easier if you have better players that are still team players. There is no way I'd want Hendo or Lucas to leave mind, I just think they need someone else in there , either alongside or in competition with them.
Players like Lucas and Henderson are the perfect squad players to have. Will work hard for the cause and always put in a shift. But at the level we want to be at, we need better quality. I just hope Rodgers addresses our poor central midfield in January.
Alonso would be nice I totally agree about how a manager (Fergie in this instance) can get extra out of players hence why I made the point about BR getting the players to believe....I genuinely think our first choice midfielders are good enough for top 4 but as you say we haven't got enough competition in there unless Rodgers can transform epic Joe Allen into some sort of player.
BR is too far the other way IMO. He gets too far ahead of his self (second anyone?) that I don't think the players would take that much noticed of his encouragement to that degree.
I like Brendan's gobbledegook. Its better than saying the wrong thing. Hendersonn is the new Dirk Kuyt.
The point is Jimmy that it's not 'new'. As stated, Ray kennedy and Ronnie Whelan played there years ago, and nobody called them a 'false left-winger'. Kenny is right, you can't re-invent football by giving it new labels. I appreciate too what Brendan is doing, and what he's trying to achieve. Very LFC. But don't talk about it as if you've just got an online MBA from the Kentucky College of ********.
haha, he does love making the simple sound complicated does Brendan bless him. As has been said ultimately it doesn't matter a toss as long as the players get it & deliver results with it on the pitch. You have to wonder whether they sit there & think "what a bell end" when he's coming out with some of this **** though
