Brede departs.... http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2014/june/03/hangeland-departs One of the great players but since he became the captain failed to lead. Thank you Brede. Dan Burn is the future. Started a thread after Surlyc suggested!
Wow I was not expecting that. I guess the club are truly seizing the opportunity to clear out the more senior players and start a fresh. Just wondering what magath's plans are. He must have a very good idea of his chosen players if he is willing to ship out the club captain. That said he has been poor by his standards this season.
Certainly agree that this deserves it's own thread. I did suggest after the Palace game that was his finale. However the news still comes as a bit of a shock and not least because of the way that the Club has handled things. This is Brede's statement: please log in to view this image Yes, his form has waned but for goodness sakes he deserves better than this. In a word, disgraceful.
Well, that's embarrassing and really should be the final nail in the coffin for Ali Mac. How can we treat Brede like that? The action was probably right but there are just certain ways to do things. Very unFulhamish.
Supposedly that quote is in no way confirmed, but it is all over Twitter which doesn't bode well. If it's true it's pretty galling. I see our favourite tubby ginge couldn't wait to wade in. please log in to view this image
Wow that's low. How can the club regard this as acceptable behaviour? Although I just came across this on Twitter. From Ali Mac apparently.
I doubt they do, but he's not with us any more so he can say what he likes. That's not the first time he's alluded to ongoings "behind the scenes". So why not share, rather than the prick-teasing shenanigans?
Having responded with emotion, I have to say... I cannot believe the club would be that stupid. But time will tell, I guess.
Now the club have tweeted saying: Fulham Football Club ‏@FulhamFC 15m The Club would like to clarify that all personal protocol was followed and that Brede Hangeland was notified in the right way. ---------------------------------------------------------- What they class as "the right way" is up for interpretation. Hopefully Brede will come out with something soon just to clear up this mess.
Why email? Could it be they contacted his agent. It all sounds wrong. Why woukd the club do it that way? Sounds like its someone stirring the pot, including tubby ginger.
As you say FI the “right way” is open to interpretation. Since Hangeland still had 12 months left, the steps taken no doubt hinge on the fact that the Club exercised a clause in his contact and presumably it related to our relegation. Precisely what recourse was open to the Club we'll never know without full disclosure and I guess that won't be forthcoming What is irrefutable though, is that the Club have been totally unprofessional in having let such a situation develop. The original half-a-dozen lines on the official website by way of announcing his departure was a mockery and to now try and defend itself on twitter is a joke.
Oh well... Email is a form of communication. Not the best but it is. After all they are professional players and showed it last season. I think the way he was released hurt him as knocks a bit of his value. He was a soldier for Fulham and gave us some great moments to cherish for that we thank him. As a captain he failed this team and that cannot be ignored.
I was sacked by Text once and got 4 weeks pay as compensation. Brede is going to get around £3mil for the last year of his contract. I don't have too much sympathy to be honest. Yes its not the right way to do it however neither were some of his performances last season....
He was not sacked, we exercised an option (likely a relegation release clause) to void the remaining year of his contract. There may be a settlement fee, but it is highly unlikely to be £3m. From a business point of view it makes sense. Hangeland had a poor year and has been a poor captain. He was not worth his salary to us anymore. However, this is not about money. This is about the perception of our club and about player-club-fan relations. The club has to do a better job at communication, it is just embarrassing for a multi-million pound organisation to operate in such an unprofessional manner.
Its all a mess really. I think we had the best of Brede. The last 2 seasons were poor and I dont think he played the club captain role particularly well, that is speculating though. I didnt get the srnse of leadership from him, it felt like he didn't like the role. He is probably unhappy at being let go. JAR is sticking his 4 penneth worth in to say the club has no loyalty etc. Forgetting what he did as a player when he wanted a move away! There's always another side to these situations. FFC as a company has to abide by certain employment laws. I am sure he was sat down at some point and told the situation. He got a bit upset and told the club to deal with his agent. The club then said fine, here it is in writing (email), thanks for your time with us and good luck. Here's 3 mill as per your contract with us. I dont know what tge fuss is about. If he'd have pulled his head out of his backside last season we might not have had to let him go.
There was a quote from AliMac on Twitter, related to Hangeland, saying something along the lines of "It is paramount that we only have players committed to Fulham FC". One thing's for sure, this certainly isn't as cut and dry as it may seem.
Like everyone, I find our treatment of Brede shocking and sad. Yes, I think it was time for him to leave, but I can't understand the disrespectful treatment he received.
When I first heard this I was appalled at the way the club seemed to have treated Brede - the manner of communication, rather than the decision itself. Reading all of the above, there may well be more to it than first appeared. As for AliMac's line about having players who are committed, Brede did make a public comment at the end of the season that suggested he was considering his options. It's a shame he's gone, but he isn't the same player he was. He could probably do a job for us in the Championship, but with his wages being so high and his performance levels on the downward trajectory, it's time to move on. A sad end to a fine Fulham career. We had some colleagues from Norway working in our office a few years back, and one of them did his National Service alongside Brede. Apparently he's a really nice bloke.
Also, a thought for those criticising his poor performances; hasn't he been suffering from sciatica? That sort of thing affects your whole life, so naturally his football was going to suffer. And I mean this as a reason, rather than an excuse.
