A large undeveloped area of the North East, known as Sunderland, was plunged into darkness late this afternoon. At first it was thought that it was due to the vast number of local residents that had not paid their electricity bills AGAIN, but, although this was found to be true, was not the reason for the blackout.
It was also suggested that it was some sort of eclipse, but this theory was ruled out when it was confirmed that the next solar eclpse is not due until June 2022.
The mystery was finally solved by none other than Sunderland manager Steve Bruce. Speaking at his post match press conference Bruce announced "It is my painfull duty ot confirm that once again Sunderland are firmly back in Newcastle's shadow"
The black cats' boss, clearly depressed and downhearted, continued "At the start of the season our aim was Europe and taking 6 easy points from our neighbours, but after being totally humiliated at St. James' Park and further slip ups, we had to adjust our ambition to just finishing hugher than our bigger and better rivals. The recent run of 6 defeats from 7 games and only 1 point from 21 has forced us to admit that we will be happy just to avoid relegation this year and maybe stay within 5 points of Newcastle. You can stick shopping at Harrods up your arse. That is all I am prepared to say on the matter apart from.................has anyone got a torch?"
