    Indeed ... I grew up with cobs but my dad was born in Manchester and my mum near Blackburn so we also had barm cakes in the vocabulary ... my Grandma, also from the North West, used to bake something we all called "Sad Cake" (probably should have put this on the pudding thread) which was fookin lovely ... it was like a flat pastry filled with currants, raisins and sultanas and baked so that the sugar in it caramelised on the top like toffee ... us kids used to love it! <cheers>
