Decent enough performance today- made a few difficult saves- no major fluff-ups. The only concern I have about him- he tends to punch the ball when catching it looks easier. Worked today against a flaccid Reading not sure it will against stiffer opposition. I'd like to see him hold onto his balls more and not just whack it away with his fists. Overall though, a pretty decent performance today and he rescued us on a couple of occasions.
Did well considering. He isn't that confident when it comes to passing but he did what he had to so no complaints from me
You want to see him hold onto his balls more and fist it less against stiffer opposition? Is this the outrageous innuendo thread? Thought he played really well yesterday, can't see him ever being a long term solution for us but credit where it's due He made a few good saves and helped get us another clean sheet. A good day for BJ.
Did well v Reading BUT IMO, its a matter of time b4 theres a clanger with Brad, not in the same class as Pepe, people who think otherwise are idiots
This Reina needs someone to seriously push him for the No. 1 spot. Jones is capable enough when at his best, but he's too inconsistant.
His distribution is awful, whereas Reina is an actual footballer. Really hope we buy Butland in January.
You think his distribution is awful but then suggest Butland? From what I've seen, his kicking is even worse! Obviously he's young so can improve so possibly, but I wouldn't want him as a first choice keeper going into next season.
2 Clean sheets for Brad now Does Reina deserve to walk back in, or more importantly does Jones deserve to keep his place?
There is little doubting who the better keeper is, the question is more about the physiological stuff. Should Reina walk back in to the side what does it say to both Pepe and Brad? Plus Doni huh and Gulacsi too...? Personally, i think Pepe should be left on the bench for a game or two at least just to make a statement: "buck up if you want to stay in the first team"
I don't think he has done anything to loose his place, two clean sheets what else can you do. The only criteria for me in any situation, football or in general were you replace someone doing a competant job, is when you have someone you know will give a big upgrade in performance and the way Reina has played lately and the good shows from Jones have me thinking Jones should retain the place. Also I don't think it would do Reina any harm to sit out some games he could be playing in, IE. not just because he is injured, may get more focus back. Always had the feeling when the oposition have worked a chance and Reina is in goal of "its not done yet you still have our keeper to beat", but not had that feeling for a while, but still think an on form Reina is class.
americanconnection has a good point... what more could he have done. thats fair. i got into and arguement about his performances being called flawless last night though and i will maintain that when you've not much to do you can't call it flawless either... he made no error but did he have a real big moment where he saved our asses? nope. did he look weak on the back pass yes. for me reina simply must play as he's vital to the passing game we are playing and frankly if jons pushes him on a bit great... i seriously have to question when the guy hasn't gone and done something to really show he's ready to boss our defense for the year why we'd drop reina who does do that... and yes i've also said and agree that reina's errors are glaring and inexcusible but he has shown fight. reina in for everton... jones can come back in for the next europa game... show us some more..... competant is the basic job, needs to improve o nthat surely to take the no 1 jersey.
I think Jones is one huge mistake waiting to happen, re comment earlier about Pepe walking straight back in the team is not good, I think the opposite, keepers need confidence, walking back into the team would restore that for Reina and Jones knows where he stands
