Now the dust is starting to settle after the sacking of the Messiah, the first black cloud on the horizon on Saturday comes in the shape of Bournemouth, top of the league with a recent record which is completely the polar opposite to ours. Cannot see them failing to go up this season, well back financially, decent manager, again slightly different to us. Anyway Dreyer is in temporary charge the players seem to be happy with this choice, short term only though, they have been told to go out and enjoy their football, although Saturday IMV will end in defeat, doesn't matter though, there is now a positive buzz about the club again.
Well , there you go the simple answer to winning a home game after 4 and a half months without one is to sack the manager, always works and today it did for Preston. The win against league leaders Bournemouth was thoroughly deserved. Two goals in the space of 10 first half minutes the home side the points. The gloomy atmosphere of recent months had disappeared and an up beat atmosphere amongst the home fans ina crowd of 8899 prevailed. Straight from the off, this was a committed home performance, apart from a few early jitters the Cherries were not really in this game. The home side took the lead after 20 minutes, the actually build up to the goal was excellent Welsh wrong footing an opponent with ease, however once the ball got to the edge of the area, the move nearly broke down with home players getting in each others way until Beavon took control and fired the ball past Jalal in the Bournemouth goal from 20 yards. (1-0) Ten minutes later the second arrived, a free kick from Wroe led to a scramble and in the melee Wright bundled the ball home. (2-0) Halt time arrived and a standing ovation for the home side. North End could have had three goals in the opening five minutes of the second have, twice Hayhurst was denied and then Jalal made a tremendous one handed save to deny Beavon. The game tended to die from then on in as it became more of a midfield battle, apart from a mazy run from substitute Monakana who'se shot was inches wide, North End comfortably eased to three points. Pity it took the Board so long to give Westley the bullet. Top performance, great atmosphere, three points and a clean sheet, can't be beat, Preston North End 2 AFC Bournemouth 0 Att 8899
I see posters on LEP are calling for Dreyer to be given the manager's post until the end of the season. One swallow doesn't make a summer. He was part of the GW set up. I believe all the pre-match warm up with the cones was done away with. When I saw them at Stevenage, I thought the warm-up was jojre of a full training seession. No wonder the players tired during the match! Anyway, onwards and upwards...hopefully.
