http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Boun...orwich-West/story-26647753-detail/story.html? The last paragraph was: "But any side that sells such key players so close to the transfer deadline is shooting itself in the foot. City should be wary of falling into the same trap, even if it would earn them a few extra millions." I know they are talking about summer 2015 but anybody remember summer 2014 and Shane Long? I don't really care what he did for Southampton. Long and Jelavic were working well together.
If he wanted to go why didn't we get rid of him earlier and get a proper replacement rather than leave it until a last minute panic.
There was nothing wrong with the Long deal, we just screwed up the replacement, we should have coughed the extra for Rhodes.
more to the point Long`s missus wanted him to head elsewhere, he put her nose out of joint to come here in the first place. Agreed the deal was too good to turn down, it was the replacement that just wasn`t up to scratch.
Long left once a bid was made, he wanted to go to southampton once they'd declared interest in him, why would we have touted him around earlier? And far from leaving it until a last minute panic, Long was sold before the season kicked off, we started chasing Hernandez almost instantly, the deal just took a long time to get sorted and wasn't finalised til deadline day. It wasn't a panic signing even if it turned out to be a poor one, it just didn't happen for him.
I agree OLM, Rhodes would have been a better choice, but I still think Hernandez hasn't been managed properly, juts like a lot of our strikers.
I have yet to see Rhodes in the Premiership. I have yet to see Hernandez in the Championship or for any length of time in the Premiership. Unitil both happen we will not know if Rhodes would have been a better more expensive option. Who knows, Ince and Hernandez (assuming we sell the obvious two) could be the Championship partnership of the season......here's hoping
I think the chances of Hernandez playing for us in the Championship next season are just shy of zero.
