Bothroyd's QPR future in doubt By Jacob MurtaghAug 3 2012 Add a commentRecommend inShare.0 Share on emailShare on print Jay Bothroyd JAY Bothroyd's future at Loftus Road is in major doubt after he was left out of QPR's pre-season tour to Germany. The former Cardiff City frontman has endured a frustrating 12 months in W12 since arriving at the club last summer, scoring just twice in 24 appearances. Bothroyd was expected to be offloaded in the close season following the January arrivals of Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse and the summer signing of Andy Johnson, but the 30-year-old was surprisingly included in the squad that travelled to Asia last month. Rangers boss Mark Hughes revealed earlier this week that he plans to trim the squad to balance the numbers at QPR's Harlington training base. And Bothroyd has joined DJ Campbell, Luke Young, Tommy Smith and Rob Hulse in being deemed surplus to requirements after missing out on a seat on the plane. Hi,I heard that Tommy was nailed on to go back to watford?..you heard anything different other than paper-talk Hilts?
No. Just whats on our messageboards. I know a lot turn out to be rubbish but these seem to be confident. Bit like the Helgusson rumours. Watford are just trying to loan the Udinese reserve team from what ive heard. I dont think we need Smith though. Even though hes a good player I dont see him starting particularly if we get Bellamy.
agree,Smith isnt a Prem player, seems a good guy, just got on with it and didnt moan..wish him all the best.Bellamy would be a good player to get also Ki Sung-Yueng from celtic would be just brilliant!Watford have a team of loanees and wil find it difficult to gel imo.Feeder clubs should be outlawed!
I think Bothroyd has been left out of the tour in the hope that somebody puts an offer in for him If they dont then I still think he will be in our 25 unless we sign somebody else
Agree. That makes good sense to me - elicit offers but use him otherwise. I'm sure Hughes has his plan for either possibility. I'm starting to think that our own Mr Mackie might be higher up the striking pecking order than we all previously thought.
Zamora is a great target man and can hold the ball up superbly - but we need a back up and Betty isn't the answer. Personally I wish Cardiff had signed JB and we had kept a hold of HH.
I wish we had kept Heidar and sold Betty too. I hope we get an alternative / back up in for BZ, as I think we are likely to need a target man most games when we find we cannot pass our way through PL defenses, and BZ isn't going to be able to play 90 minutes every game! Betty played about 2 good games last season, so while I don't have great faith in him, I do hope we at least have him there, if we don't or can't bring in another target man.
