This is proof that the Riverside is not the luckiest of grounds for City or Bruce to win at. The last game for Bruce at Man U was at Boro' when he lifted the Premier League trophy!!
I don't go to the Riverside anymore, the last time I went was a couple of Seasons ago in the snow. We came away with a 2-2 draw being in front twice and Barmby missing an absolute sitter. He blazed it over from about 4 yards with the keeper out of position.
Dont beleive Barmby missed from that distance.According to other threads only MacClean can miss from that distance.
Because the guy clearly doesn't understand that we get nothing from that Ground, we were ****, incredibly **** and always have been at the Riverside but we all knew that. Therefore telling us that it's totally based on our performance when it's clearly a mindset problem due to the historical depression we've suffered there is completely irrelevant and stupid.
That has not really been a good ground for City over the years either. In the last 24 visits Hull City have Won just 4 with 6 drawn games and 14 lost. 3 of the 4 wins have come since the turn of the century. 2004/05 that great 4-2 win plus 2-1 win on new years day 2007 and this season 1-0 McLean win.
Sorry but of course it was based on our performance. You don't really think the team we had out last night (only 5 of which played for us last time we played there, and hardly any before that) were thinking about previous performances by totally unrelated city teams over the last 26 years? We got beat because we were crap on the night, that could be for a variety of reasons, but I really don't think our record there over the last few decades affectes anything, just like it didn't at Elland Road. Most teams lose a lot of away games, so it's inevitable that eventually records like this one will develop through nothing more than pure coincidence.
I don't know about anybody else, but if I was going into a game where the side I was playing for really struggled for results, and was playing alongside new players adapting to this League such as Proschwitz, it would make me feel a hell of a lot more pressure than I normally would. I'm not saying it's not down to our performance, I'm trying to say the performance was down to both poor team selection and a particular mindset.
I'm not sure they'd even know about the record though. Yeah we all know because Burnsy and Swanny like to natter about that kind of thing all game, but how would the players know and why would they care?
We were **** on the night against a decent team playing at home. I doubt any of the squad gave a **** about hoo doos or jinxes or gypsy curses etc Maybe the manager must shoulder some blame for poor selections, tactics, inability to motivate etc? I was there at Ayresome Park for that last win. Good day out
I'd believe that **** about 'lucky' or 'unlucky' grounds if we had the same players each time but as ALL football teams have revolving doors for players and managers the only constant is the team name.
The best I've seen from us up at the Riverside is the FA cup replay 5/6 years ago. Yeah, we may have lost, but a screamer from Dawson and a finishing score of 4-3 made it an enjoyable night against what was then a premier league side. The less said about our game there in the premier league, the better!
