Been checking our website on " home ticket sales ", and looking at the Boro game as it gives you a stadium plan, with empty seats etc. Looks to me, although there are 4 days to go, and a good few people will pay on the day, that it hasn't made much impact at all ( the 25% reduced rates) Bearing in mind, clubs as of next season ( correct me if I'm wrong ) will have to spend within their financial means,,,,, with us having Bullard etc on the wage bill, if season ticket sales go poorly we could be in a right old mess next season!!! Am I reading too much into this ? The club HAVE to bring in as much revenue as possible next season. If season tickets are reduced, will the club gain the extra amount of people to make this beneficial ? It'll be rather interesting to see what they end up doing that's for sure !
It will become an ever decreasing circle! Crap players on high wages, team not performing, attendances falling and gate receipts deceasing meaning the club earns less money to spend on quality players which means poor performances and a further decrease in gate receipts! That is why it is so important that we upgrade our academy status and bring in our younguns to bridge the skills gap. Make Hyam Captain and bring on Carson, Whyte, Lawrence, Cropper et al. Funny enough that philosophy ceratinly worked for Sir Bobby!
We need to try and encourage as many people to go to these matches as possible, so that Clegg just doesn't say I told you so and keeps the high prices for next season!!
I agree, we need to encourage as many people to go as possible. Its rather clever by Clegg and the people at the ticket office. On the surface - it appears they are listening to the fans, being the good guys, and I am sure there is positive intent there. HOWEVER ! The reality = We're 19th, going nowhere despite some very good performances of late ( arguably we have deserved 15 points from 15 ), its FREEZING COLD, and people are very very hard up at the moment. So how much does the 25% off really appeal to people ? I think, the reality is the club HAS tried it, and it really is NOT going to add many on to the gate. Therefore, sadly, the club will feel vindicated in keeping prices high next season. After all, the financial fair play thing kicks in next season, and we have quite a few high earners ( see other articles ).
Exactly, I haven't been overly critical about the club as much as most but I honestly am very sceptical about the underlying reasons behind this. Clegg knows he's not going to make as much money by lowering the prices this much atm and therefore it justifies the club having the high ticket prices next season. He's just going to say I told you so!!
