LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers says Sunderland target Fabio Borini would benefit from leaving Anfield before Mondayâs transfer deadline. Sunderland have been chasing Borini for the whole of the summer after the Italian netted 10 goals during his season-long loan at the Stadium of Light last year. But after Sunderlandâs £14million offer was accepted by Liverpool last month, the Black Catsâ pursuit has dragged on and on, with a loan approach now on the table, rather than a permanent switch. Gus Poyet has remained confident throughout the window that Sunderland would eventually re-sign Borini, but there is little optimism at the Stadium of Light now that the 23-year-old will return. Sunderland have turned their attentions to a loan move for Inter Milanâs Ricky Alvarez and although Poyet is open to signing Borini as well, the Liverpool man needs to make a decision on whether he is willing to join the Wearsiders this weekend. But Rodgers has left no room for doubt over what Borini should do after encouraging the former Chelsea youngster to join Sunderland. âI think Fabioâs situation is clear,â said Rodgers. âAll the players who there have been doubts about know exactly where they are at. âFabio has got a move there to Sunderland which has been ongoing for a number of weeks. He knows where he stands in terms of his position here at Liverpool. âFor him, itâs best to move on and get playing regularly. But thatâs something he has to decideâ Should Borini remain at Liverpool after Monday, he will not be left out in the cold, with Rodgers still planning to use him as a squad player. But he will be fourth in the pecking order, with England duo Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert, along with £16million new signing Mario Balotelli, all ahead of him. Rodgers added: âWe will have the types of strikers that I want in Balotelli, Sturridge and Lambert. âRickie has already showed his worth. He was brought in to come on and affect games and heâs done that for the last two games. âFor Fabio, he will want to play Iâm sure. Heâs a good kid whose opportunities here been limited. We will see how that develops.â
Rodgers must have been telling him this for weeks. Saw something on twitter the other day from an ex teammate of Fabios saying his problem is he thinks he should be playing for Barcelona not Sunderland. It's got to the point now where even if he does sign the fans won't take to him like last time because he's messed us around so much. Will have even more to prove second time round if he does end up at the Sol.
Tell him to **** off he will only be coming to us because liverpool dont want him and if no one else comes in for him so were basically a last resort i personally dont want him he's had his chance
If he comes, he's created a huge pressure situation for himself. If he reckons he's Barcelona standard, he's going to have to prove it instantly. The upside though could be that he yearns for his next move and plays out of his skin for us to attract a big club and a huge transter fee for us.
Well i think we need a left sided midfielder who can chip in with goals as lets face it our strikeforce wont get many between them. We need cover at left bk and ideally another out and out centre forward. I would have sold fletcher aswell. He isnt half the player he used to be and his body language says it all to me. At least Jozy puts the effort in...
Honestly dont want him now. If he ends up here then I'm sure he'll get everyones full support and there'll be some PR spin about how he always wanted to come and it was never in doubt.
Well, let's face facts. Rogers has made it quite plain to the lad where he stands. He hasn't exactly been inundated with offers either. He's had plenty of time to make up his mind. If he stays at Liverpool he'll end up in the wilderness & he'll have no one to blame but himself.
