I think Borini needs a bit more time to get use to us, away from the first team. I remember when a new signing wouldn't get anywhere near the first team in the first 12 months. The lad has been thrown in at the deep end, and is not getting anything but grief. It's not good for the club or the player, let him recover from this, and then take a bit of time to just train with the team, with no pressure. It is not his fault that the owners ****ed up, lets not make him pay for their mistake. Suso is well and truly up for it. My concern is Kelly, but saying that I have faith in both Wisdom and Robinson to step in and partner Johnston.
Can't help but look at the positives in this instance: Gerrard as a false 9, Morgan/Yesil as a targetman for Suarez to play off. We've already seen that taking a gamble on Sterling and Suso is paying off.
may i just say that while nobody wants a player to be injured i am so gald rodgers will be forced now not to pick the boy in every game as the lad is completely in over his head i nthe deep end. he shows he can make a good run but in general play and especially when out wide he is useless to us. Rodgers was doing him no favours. I also think kelly's positioning and eagerness to hcarge out at an attacker at every chance plus how today he'd just not pass the damn thing means him being out could also help us.... it'll force rodgers to think baout left full at the least but enrique has been dire..... johnson at rb will be better. but agge rbeing out = total and utter disaster and once again the needs we had and didn't address will bite us. rodgers might pcik coates but is likely to go to carragher who is at best marginally competant at this point. In short i'd said we needed a CB and LB in the summer and these two lesser priorities (never minding the striker we failed utterly to aquire) means we'll be struggling badly now. i think we'll need to see some huge improvements as while we did well due to utd simply kicking it away at times unde rlittle pressure we simply don't make that many real chances as nobody is in there to score.
I think Kelly is better defensively than Johnson. Agree we need a new CB and LB. After a decent season last year Skrtel is playing more like the previous ones again and Enrique has been shocking lately. Think we need a new attacking midfielder aswell as we can't rely on Shelvey to score consistently yet. So thats a new CB,LB,AM and Striker. Hope we got a big budget next summer, we'd need it to get decent players to fill all those positions
Maybe, but I can only see us signing a striker in Jan. Hopefully we'll get 2 or 3 players in but I doubt it
Exactly As far as I'm concerned the complete and utter **** ups in this summers window are already back to haunt us. We all knew about Aggers injury record didn't we? Why no cover brought in? We all knew Enrique needed competition for his place didn't we? No cover brought in? We all knew about Lucas injury problems from last year didn't we? We played him from the off anyway and lost him straight away. We all knew we needed strikers right? Only one added with two leaving. The one brought in is young and not even backed up with a decent goalscoring record. Not his fault in fairness and I still see enough that I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. However it still equates to a **** up of potentially epic proportions. I was surprised at the confidence of some that this squad entering into this season hadn't been weakened. Well I'm afraid it has fellas and to quite a serious degree. We better all hope that tis crop of youngsters who are about to be thrown into the lions den are good enough. Unfair to pin our hopes on them obviously but that's the position we are in.
But will either end up with as many as Van P did? No...in fact they are unlikely to get as many combined as he did last year.
The only tiny positive about Agger's potential injury is Coates SHOULD get a lot of game time and we may end up with 3 quality centre halves by the time Agger is back! Obviously Rodgers might go with Carra and his experience which would ensure we'd probably be stuck in the relegation zone and Coates would leave out of frustration. I think at the moment it doesn't seem as if we've used our funds very wisely in regards to Borini/Sahin because we probably could've used what we are paying Sahin to get Damiao on loan instead and used the Borini money to buy an actual winger instead of getting a guy thats not quite good enough to lead the line on his own (in the managers eyes) but also not quite good enough to play as a winger.
We do mate and I'm not giving up yet. We played really well today and deserved better but football is about finding a way to win at all costs. Playing decent football is all well and good but football teams need a certain level of game intelligence. Our senior players have little knowledge of this new system and asking the youngsters to carry the can so early in the season is a big ask. Every single game for the next few months will have big pressures attached. Fans will be clinging to the hope the young players can come good but I hope to god we don't ruin careers of decent young players by slaughtering them for mistakes that are essentially not their fault. Are they ready? We better bloody hope so.
