1. Would you sell Fletcher and Altidore and use the money to sign Borini? 2. Fletcher is finished at safc for me, shouldnt have played yesterday and fluffed his chance. 3. After yesterdays snub I can't see anything other than Jozy leaving in the summer. Think yesterday probably made Poyet's mind up with regards to Borini leading the line. Think at home we'll see Giaccherini left and Johnson right. Away possibly how we lined up yesterday with Colback offering extra protection on the left.
I thought Fletcher put himself about pretty well when he came on, and I certainly don't think he warrants scapegoat status for missing a chance which he certainly should have scored..I still think he has a massive part to play in our survival battle though..
Fletch done ok when he came on, I WOULD buy Borini if available but as Parker has already stated Borini up front with Giacherrini on the left and Johnson on the right.
I like fletcher..but I do think his days are numbered here. Not sure why, I rate him as a centre forward
I loved Fletcher even from his Burnley and Wolves days but something is not quite right. His miss yesterday was criminal for me and certain striker would be getting slated for it. In fact I bet there'd be multiple threads about how it was all Altidore's fault we lost.
Parker..this is just my opinion, but...Fletcher has proved what a good striker he is. He has scored plenty of goals for us and yes he has missed a few. The lad has had his injury woes of late as well, but in the main he is a decent centre forward who leads the line well. Jozy..on the other hand, has had a decent run of games and not really looked anything like the player we thought he might be when he was bought. I doubt any Sunderland fan would want the lad to fail, but his genuine lack of talent is there for all to see. We bought a duffer I'm afraid. As I said just my opinion tho'
Agree with both of Parkers posts although normally I am a Fletcher fan Borini is a class act. Dont think we will get him but at least try. Staying up, the fans, Gus can all help change his mind.
And there you go again, making scapegoats eh? Yet slagging others off because of you love in with a fat Yank.
Where have made someone a scapegoat. In my opinion Fletcher shouldn't have played. All I said was that he had a brilliant chance to score and blew it. It didn't lose us the game,.we were beaten by brilliant goals.
Having watched Fletchers chance a few times on replays, he would probably have scored last season when everything he touched turned to goals. He is struggling at the moment to recapture his sharpness and his first touch was poor, but it was a tight angle to score from saying that, and it should not be used as a stick to beat him with, missing chances is all part of a strikers lot, just move on. He has showed us how good he can be, unlike say Altidore who hopefully might still surprise us, I personally think we should give them both more time to come good and have a re-think at the end of the season perhaps. For now we should go with Giacca., Borini. and AJ as our starting front three, depending on the opposition. Gus did a top class job on Sunday with his team selection and we seem to be in capable hands with a manager who knows what he is doing, long may it continue.
I think people are massively over reacting to the one miss. We looked better when he came on and were able to mount a decent attempt at a comeback. He held it up well I thought.
This. But I wouldn't be too worried about not buying him in the summer. We need a 15-20 goal striker to lead the line and Borini isn't it
We don't have that sort of money to spend fella. We're heading towards the back end of the season, go and look how many strikers who are likely to reach that total and look at their value. Don't know how you can't see a goal scorer in that finish yesterday, he's in his first full season in the prem, he's been playing as an inside forward and he's only 22, he'll develop into a fine premiership striker imo and will be 10-15 goal player next season.
He took it brilliantly Funk, but I just don't see him as a club's lead striker, our club or any club for that matter. I'd keep him if we can but we need another striker to lead the line. I'm hoping Scocco's the man - it means we don't have to spend big on another striker. Fletch, Jozy and Connor will almost certainly go this summer so we will be in the market for strikers. If we can't get a 20+ striker as you suggest then we need everyone else to pitch in and contribute to the goals tally. Our defence and midfield are starting to impress me now, but if we struggle to stay up it'll be down to the number in the goals for column not goals against column.
That's what I love about the style of play Gus has brought to us, we are getting goals from elsewhere, add a 10 to 15 a season striker to the mix we should do well.
How many has borini got this season playing on the left? He is getting better with each game he plays. I would say he will be our top scorer come the end of the season. Wickham could have a part to play next season.
