I think Monk is right in doing and announcing this to show clubs out there that bony is going nowhere at the end of the season even though martinez is just one club interested in making bony an Everton player. I found this below and monk is saying through the press that "hands off he is not for sale" Swansea City boss Garry Monk has insisted the club wants to build a team around Wilfried Bony, after reported interest from Everton in the striker, reports Wales Online. Bony has been in superb form lately, scoring in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal and providing the second goal for Jonathan De Guzman in the 3-0 win over Norwich with a stunning back heel. The Ivory Coast international has managed 20 goals in all competitions during his debut season with the Swans, and has reportedly caught the attention of Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who may be planning for life without Romelu Lukaku next season following his loan spell. But Monk insists the club have no intention of selling their star man, and instead are focused on building a team around him. Asked about whether he may be a target for other clubs this summer, Monk said: âPossibly. You can say that about a lot of players in every single team. We want him here, he is an important player for us, and we make sure he knows that. âI think he is enjoying his time here. We want him as part of our future to build a team around, and that goes for a number of the players that are here. âPlayers who score goals, especially strikers, will always attract interest. That is the way it is. We have never been a selling club â we donât have to sell. We are in a healthy position.â
What I love about football at this time of the season is the speculation that surrounds transfers, managerial changes etc, It's far from definite that we will not be relegated, however after last week we are in a far stronger position. Imagine though if Mr Laudrup was still manager!? We would have had the whole summer speculating if he was going to remain in charge. With Monks I know he will be at his desk all summer (give or take) and know exactly where we stand. Bony may well leave, but if he does it will be early in the transfer window allowing us ample time to get a replacement. Bony has done ok, I don't think he will be keen to stay on though.
If monk says he cant leave Then unless he has a release clause then he cant. I dont see any signs of him wanting to leave as he looks very happy to me.
How presumptuous, surely our new manager will decide that! Highly likely he'll have some sort of release clause it just depends on the detail. And while Wilfried is happy and loves the club if someone with European football and treble his wages comes sniffing, will he stay? Let's get to the end of the season and speculate after that. I'm sure it does the players no good and from Garry's reaction on Monday they really need to keep their noses to the grindstone.
If Huw /Board could double the money on Bony, what do you think will happen ? , as difficult as it is to buy a quality striker I think the club will sell although imo that would be a back ward step. I'd hate to think that we a had only 1 season watching one of the best strikers's in my memory to have played for us
We need to keep Bony and add some quality to play with and behind him. We need to stay up to afford that and, if we do, perhaps we'll get another lucrative season from him before cashing in. Love him to stay forever, though. You never know, if we bring in the right players and he has another good season, he might well see his medium term future with us if we do well in the league. It depends on the board's level of ambition. The very top is beyond us but the right signings could see us challenging a top 6 spot without the added burden of Europe weighing us down. Let's hope.
Oh I'd love Bony to be with us for a few seasons, he's the player we've been missing. Such a quality striker I said from day one he'd get 20 goals this season and I know you have been a supporter of Bony as well from the off Ivor. Now to finish the season strongly, and that starts with a win today.
This might be a bit of a ghost statement if both Monk and Bony don't keep their positions with the club come spring ,kinda grinned when I first read it. I'm sure they will though---must be positive.
If we can keep our best players here then who is the best winger we can afford that would be able to cross the ball onto Bonys nut nearly every time ?
Totally agree with you there ivor, I was a bit worried early on in the season that bony was a bit slow and not the right striker for us but he has proved us doubters wrong. OK his finishing can be improved a touch but what a great header of the ball he is, His ball control has improved a great deal and as long as wecan keep him i think he will be even better next season..
Bit worried Dai, you slated the player and the board for buying him, or have you convieniently 'forgotten' that. Bony will defo go in the summer and so will Michu, whatever Monk says. Hopefully Monk will be first through the door, he can go and coach kids, preferably someone else's.
Bony will go if someone offers upwards of £25million. Couple that with the £80 million tv deal for next season plus all other tv revenue saved etc since being in the PL, we need to spend £30million to add real quality over quantity in the summers improve the team.
Well if Monk is the future then the future's bleak I'm afraid , do him and the club a favour and don't even consider giving him the job permanently until he's ready , and he's not .
