The way things are at the moment, if Monk isn't going to start with Bony I'd rathe see Emnes take the front man position. Being charitable I'd say Gomis needs more part time appearances to get used to the Premier League.
WhenBony isnt playing , Id like to see both Gomis and Emnes start .we have to mix things up because were not meeting the grade with our game as it stands .
Bony will be back next week. He's our number 1 striker and I assume he didn't start today as part of his disciplinary learning curve. Gomis has made a slow start to the season - but Bony took a few months at the start of last season before he started playing well, so I am sure he Gomis will improve as the season progresses.
Our main strikers bony and gomis are disappointing so far this season. Bony especially is poor and is running out of excuses and needs to start scoring soon or we had better send for trundle to teach them some skills in finding the net....
If Bony didn't play on Sat as part of an internal sanction then that was an absolutely stupid thing to do. It impacted the team not just Bony. Bony has been performing well though not scoring, which is mainly down to the lack of quality in the crossing from our wingers. His defensive work has been great. His hold up work has been to his usual standard. He setup Shelvey for his goal against Chelsea. Our best winger at getting to the bye-line and crossing is Montero, who is spending more time on the bench than on the field. Ridiculous when you have a player like Bony who is terrific in the air and our others wingers and backs are not delivering quality in service into the box, which is a key part of their job.
No such thing as a "disciplinary learning curve" Players get booked and sometimes they get sent off, such is the way of things. This is a player that has not had a problem with discipline at all in his career (I've just checked it on Statbunker) and some say he was a little unfortunate v Southampton. He's been out of form of course and that's probably the reason he was dropped to the bench, and we were pressing Sunderland high up the pitch, at least for the first 30 odd minutes, so it could be argued Gomis fits that tactic a little better. Still think Bony should have come on for the second half but it didn't happen. Good players don't become bad ones overnight and Bony was excellent when he came on. Matter of time before he starts finding the net again imo, and Gomis will too - but it takes time to settle in. Emnes will remain as a super sub imo, but fair play he always performs when he comes on. I like the fact we have three decent srikers to choose from and I'm sure Monk does too. No need to panic just yet.
We are in 5th place and Bony hasn't scored yet. I can't wait to see where we end up when he starts banging them in
I agree Valley, if our front man (whoever he is) starts hitting the back of the net we'd be doing even better.
Bony may not have scored (has had a couple to three really chances though) but the attention he attracts from defenders means space is created for other. I don't believe it's a coincidence Dyer is our top scorer.
Agree. The defenders are so occupied with him they don't see Routs and Dyer running through on goal with Gylfi putting in the key passes for them.
Bony needs to feel like a king, untouchable like Roy jones jr. and Gomis has to accept being the second striker.
You're forgetting his 34 goals in 30 games in the Eredivisie - he's a talented player, no doubt. Bony has shown enough that he's still got the mojo. Gomis has a lot of talent but like many players will take time to come to terms with the physicality and pace of the Prem. Bony was no great shakes when he started, remember.
Bony needs a goal and sooner the better, i still say he has not reached peak fitness yet and that's why he is half a pace from where he should be and he would have got the ball against the saints instead of the player and he would have scored the sitters he has missed. He will get there soon and once he gets his first goal then we will be a force to be recon with .....
Has he missed that many sitters? One or two maybe. Don't think we can get too carried away about this. His contribution otherwise has been very good, and I agree it's a matter of time. Hopefully the same thing will happen for Gomis.
Gomis is quicker than bony and is showing signs that he will score goals soon and then we have super sub emms who will always get his share of goals at this level...We are blessed with fire power that are not performing to their capabilities and i would play emms up front for a few games...
Not sure that's the answer Daiswan. Emnes is doing well coming off the bench so not sure he's a 90 minute kind of guy. I can see the argument though. Bony needs a goal and Gomis needs gametime. We have so many more goals from our front men than they're showing right now but it'll all come in time. Gomis reminds me very much of Bony early last season.
