To be fair, I didn't think they'd get Dan Sturridge from Chelski last season, but they managed it. Stranger things have happened in football.

It's obvious he is available, either get a big bid in now or go for a loan with a view to buy. I would step in with a 16m bid, not many others will be able to or want to compete with that. To be honest he could be the difference between top 10 and getting into Europe.

    We're gonna get him like.

Monday, i thought he'd stay at United, but after Fergie's talk earlier, he's gonna be up for grabs.

I have no doubt he'll choose us before Bolton.

16 million? that would be a bit steep for me, yes quality player but I reckon 11-12 million should be enough to secure his full time services.

Welbeck never gave the impression that moving here was a gripe, he even came back of his own free will whilst injured (United had been looking after him) and said he'd 'missed the place'

I fully support putting a bid in for him permanently right now though, offer £10million with add-ons, and if need be, give them first refusal on buying him back for the next 3 years at £20million, like they had with Rossi.

If Henderson was worth 20m Welbeck is probably worth the same I said 16 because I thought that was low....

I can't fault your way of thinking but Hendo was never worth 20 million, I think it's been acknowledged that Liverpool paid over the odds for him

Thing is, Fergie doesnt haven to sell either. Liverpool had to pay over the odds as Henderson was on a contract and so will we for Welbeck. However, we have the money form Judas still and I'd be happy to spend it on a very promising young man that proved to me he has the credentials to make it at thia level.

Gyan and Welbeck looked a very good partnership to be honest and I'd be happy to see it resume starting with Liverpool on the 14th.

    Where's the £16M coming from?
    :)

I think we've already spent the Jordan money.

I 'm pretty sure the next couple of signings will be loans

Buy him. If only because he has been here and either didn't mind it or he liked it. Footballers who like up here are few and far between. Buy the lad now.

The 16m comes out of the billions Short just made from selling part of one of his other business's. It's a smart signing because in 2 years time I would bet he is worth twice what he is now.

My calculations mean Bruce has 60m to spend this summer.

    A 20m summer transfer budget
    18m from Bent
    16m from Hendo
    6m when we sell Gordon

The Jordan money has got us thus far in the transfer market, which leaves the remainder of the Judas money from January; the TV money; Sponsorship money; season ticket money AND most importantly, any further Ellis Short money?

In all that, there is easily the £16m mentioned and more, likely to be nearer double that IMO.

I agree, i think there's plenty left in the pot, the club are just being a bit savvy and not advertising this fact and watching the fees inflate when we target players.

Remember too, we don't know how much we still owed Spurs....
At the time SNQ said the sale ensured viability (or similar words).... I wouldn't bank on this ... but of course I hope I'm totally wrong

pretty sure the spurs cash has been paid to spurs already.

There has to be more cash in the kitty though, if we are all spent up there is something seriously wrong.

The money we owed Spurs was surely about equal to what Stoke owed us for Kenwyne.

Mr Short hasn't gifted his money to the club. He just turned it into extra shares so that he gets his money back when he eventually sells on the club.
Any such money adds to the theoretical debt.
So we have to bear that in mind too.

Sponsorship, tickets etc - that pays the wages.
Of course we should get a few extra quid when Mccartney, Steed ?, etc are moved on.

There was no extra money ploughed in last year. 13m for Gyan was financed by Cana 5m and Jones 8m

So to me, Brucie is wheeling and dealing.
