No good news coming from the Swans regarding possibly the most talented player to wear the Swans shirt in recent years. At his best, he burst into the Swansea side and we knew we had something special. He was a player that shone like a beacon in both Division 1 and the Championship, scoring some scorching goals and dictating midfield. He attracted admirers from afar. At his worst, he has played 54 games in just over 4 years. Constant rumours abounded about him moving on (however the best price offered was just £2mill when Pintado was rated at £7 mill!), during which time he sometimes gave the impression of someone willing to jump ship. Then the unfortunate injuries and now it seems like ground hog day......... we have rightly stuck with him and continued to believe that the Messiah may rise again.... but are we being romantic, should we move on? Should we get someone else in now...forget about Ferre ....lets just assume he aint coming back? Could you honestly see him standing up against the Prem midfield big boys better than our 3 against Man City ?? Does he want it?? Do we stay as we are and just keep the faith?? At what point do we have to start cutting that emotional cord? I for one thought of Ferre as a squad member during pre-season but was I just overly optimistic? Is it better we move on and build now, rather than hope that he will rise again in the next few months ? Then if he does play, bonus (I hope so!!) Personally, I have recently decided to consider him written him off. This is not a case of no news is good news. Our time is now. YOUR FLOOR
Wasn't there a big debate about this a week or so ago?!? In summary (from memory): Bodde is a talent. Bodde was injured when he was with us we owe him / Bodde is an asset not doing a job, send him packing. People recover from similar injuries / Boddes problem seems to be recurring. The club haven't said his career is over / There's no smoke without fire. He's on a pay as you play deal / If you think he's training for free you're an idiot. Pretty much everyone is hoping the same thing. Bodde will come back fitter and stronger than ever before. The reality is looking as though that isn't likely, but only time will tell.
He deserves all the time it takes.he had the good grace to stay with us when he had the talent to go with anyone.and if it means going into the market so be it we have the money.and the market works both ways you cant have to many good players and you can allways offload surplus
My two cents: There is no doubting Ferrie Bodde is/was the best talent to pull on the Swans shirt in recent years. He had a contract with us at the time he was injured, therefore, in my opinion, we owe him. He had a few chances to leave us for what were considered "bigger" clubs, but instead he remained loyal to us. So do we not think we should remain loyal to him? I'm not saying forever, but let's stick with him just a little bit longer. There's been no news about this latest setback, so maybe its just a niggle, and they are working on it. If the Swans write him off and chuck him out to dry, I would be very dissappointed with the club.
They can't just write him off, he has a contract that both club and player has signed, and until either one party or both says so, he is part of the playing staff at the swans
Everything must be agreed upon by both parties, and as we are not privy to the contract wording it's all speculation, but we will know soon enough anyway as the swans must name their 25 man squad soon, if he's not on there we will know the game is up! Besides I do think the club will let us know before that happens in any case.
Musty for a club to release a player there are two options. By "sacking" him we'd have to pay up the remainder of his salary (which has been much debated on here and is best left alone!). Te other option is to "terminate by mutual consent", which generally means that the player knows the club want rid, and goes to the board saying "I'll walk if you give me X amount of money" (normally less than paying up an entire contract).
Did I at all mention that I believe we should hang him out to dry. No. I think I was overly optimistic about him being part of the squad this season. We have to consider he will not play and we have to move on. I remeber plenty of discussions and salivating about a Bodde/Senna midfield ...... so I was not alone. We need a someone else in midfield sooner rather than later. We are paying him, we will continue to help his recovery but he cannot be considered part of our squad this year.
Can you point me to where the club has said that ? And he will be part of the squad if he is capable of playing, saying he can't be considered is disingenuous as you or I don't know what exactly is happening around bodde. We will know in due course, speculating one way or the other does little, and I am sure the club and brendan knows what is needed.
Whereas the fans' views have a place we don't have a say in whether we cut him loose. The fact is we won't cut our ties with him as a club until the medics tell the staff at Swansea that he's finished. I can't imagine us doing anything else after sticking with him for so long. To pontificate about whether he's a goner is frankly a waste of time - we don't know. We all hope he comes back but most of us now doubt it after recent events. All we can do is keep waiting and hoping until the medics say one way or the other. He's got nowhere else to go in his current state anyway has he?
I don't think the club would still be working with him if there was no prospect of him returning. And I don't think Bodde would carry on either. His recovery is obviously taking longer than we had hoped for, but all this is just speculation. I trust that the club are doing the right thing. It is pointless speculating when we don't have the full facts. And I don't think the club should be giving a weekly update. Bodde needs time to recover without fans getting on his case.
Jager, please don't pull the holier than though when it comes to speculation. It is for us to read between the lines and use the god given brains we have to sift through the media ****e and see what really is being said. This Swansea board/ not606 would be nothing more than the BBC sports news page without 'speculation'. A Bodde in the team is worth two in the recovery room (I think that's how the proverb goes).......I am not saying he has to get out of the squad, but I believe anyone hoping for a return of the Bodde is overly optimistic. We need a midfielder now of a different look (ala Bodde) to what we have, not if and when the maestro returns. If we do that, then we have simply bolstered midfield and if he comes back..... fandabbydozy. I really do hope he comes back.....but we have just this one shot - the present. I do not expect us to bust the bank for a new guy. However, I for one was salivating at a Bodde led midfield with what soundbites we recieved at the end of last season/ off season from the very same club that allowed us to speculate he was all fine to go. Perhaps it's my fault for counting my chickens too early, but I am staring to lack belief in this particular egg hatching......and it's pissed me off. in June/July (and I think you were speculating then) As you say though, we shall wait and see.....and I hope I am wrong. PS In an age of professional/cutthroat sport, you know I'm right Jager,....................... and if your'e reading this FB.....get well soon!
if you want to see how ferrie is getting on then the best place to find out is in oceana on the kingsway ! then you can ask him your self! though the response will go along the lines of "ferrie how is the knee?" FB "yeah man, its doing great " the latest ive heard is a knee infection. i personally dont beilieve that, the news will come out soon enough no doubt.
Whilst he deserves to pull on the Swans shirt and all Swans fans are urging Ferre to do that time is not on our side. Augustein is doing an honest job but we need more strength , pace and power in that middle midfield. Perhaps a cut price Portuguese or Croatian Nigel de Jeong out there somewhere in Europe?
bodde to call it a day is the feeling at the club on the advice of the medical team.....he will never be the same anyway if its true.
Must admit I'm having some real doubts he'll come back now! We were told he'd play late last season, then July he'll be back in pre-season training, but that has come unstuck at Neath. Time to move on in my view, but it does hurt to say it................... please log in to view this image
Any talk of getting someone in to replace Bodde is silly, Bodde was always only an added bonus for the squad if he could get fit, he has been out for so long that he had already been replaced anyway. If we need someone then we need someone but it is no way reliant on what happens with Bodde.
I agree as bodde was replaced when he got injured by allen for the most part, if he does make a return it will be like gaining a new player than a return of an old player, besides we got to the premier league without him, if the worst case scenario we will survive without him also. We will IMO find out in the next fortnight anyway, team squad must be submitted to the premier league in the early part of september, if he is not within the 25 his career is finished I think, certainly for this season and perhaps permanently ?
find someone to replace danny before its to late, what idiot buys a non proven striker for £3.5 million without knowing if he can play premiership football.. He obviously is not up to standard and will only score an odd goal here and there.....A L2 striker can do that as we know....
