Sadly, Bobby Moore passed away twenty years ago this Sunday. please log in to view this image The match day programme on Saturday will include a tribute to Bobby and Iâm sure there will be many others. This one from Les Strong pretty much says it all however: âIt was amazing playing alongside Bobby. As a full back, technically you shouldnât be too far advanced of your centre half. I would actually stand on the half way line and get one ball from him and I was attacking. People used to think I was a great attacking full back, but when he left I donât think I went over the half way line.â And here is a glimpse of Bobby in action, in a derby match against Chelsea in 1975 -
It was a privilege to have seen Bobby Moore play, the coolest man EVER to dribble the ball out of defence. And just remember the pass for Hurst's 3rd goal in '66, when Jack Charlton was shouting to kick it out. He deserves all the praise even after 20 years. (Shame on the FA for not treating better years ago). R.I.P.
How quickly has that gone! Never saw him play, missed him by one season. My dad said even in the latter stages of his career he was still amazing to watch. Well done FFC for remembering and reflecting on a brilliant player, so glad he played for us.
Old enough to remember him, Marsh and Best doing there stuff for us. Saw them play together several times and it was a pure pleasure. Great Man. Will always remember him wiping his hands on the cloth before taking the world cup from the Queen and shaking her hand. He did it, he said, because he noticed she had white gloves on and he didn't want to get them dirty. How many of the oiks that captain England today would think of this.
The Club has posted a number of articles this morning - http://www.fulhamfc.com/ And here is a video tribute, including some Fulham footage -
West Ham's shirt for the game tonight - please log in to view this image Would have been nice if we had done something at the game on Saturday.
Fulham did a nice tribute in the programme, but I would have liked to show my respect with a minute's applause on Saturday. That said, and please forgive me C58, I don't think its the same as at The Boleyn tonight. The late, great Bobby Moore came to Craven Cottage to end his career and would never mean the same to Fulham as he was for West Ham, where the status was legendary - almost an understatement. RIP #6
I remember seeing that team with Moore and Mullery - especially in the cup run. They were both a bit special, but Moore was just class. Really enjoyed the video clip - especially remembering some of the other players like Les Barret and Jimmy Conroy. it was interesting to compare the game with today as well. The players seemed to have so much more room - made for flowing football. However the tackles were a bit X certificate - Brian Moore saying David Hay was a bit unlucky to be booked when it would have been a straight red today!! Chelsea had some muscle then - Chopper Harris and Micky Droy in defence and Ian Hutchinson up front - he was the original long throw in player I remember. the other thing that was interesting was that it was 1975 and Chelsea - who had won the cup and Cup winners cup a couple of years earlier had slipped into Division 2 - I had forgotten that.
