RIP Sir Bobby

I'd imagine the saudis will be drawing up plans to erect a statue and "claim" him as one of their greats

Fabulous footballer Just too young to really see him play in person but my old dad reckoned he was the best English midfielder he’s ever seen Different era obviously
But RIP Bobby

Never saw him play live but a true legend of the football world. To survive the plane crash and win what he did, amazing. RIP Bobby.

RIP Bobby.

Amazing footballer. First of his kind really. Midfielder who was everywhere and made and scored tons of goals.

Only seen him play once. Foggy as owt at Roker, so no idea what he was like! It was 1-1 That day. Joe Baker scored and I didn't see that either!

RIP
Great footballer, not sure I could say the same about him as a person, seemed to forget his NE roots imo.
Total contrast to his brother. Jack was a man who celebrated where he came from and always retained his working class openness.

Bobby, possibly as a result of the crash, seemed to celebrate where he climbed to and was insular to the point of rude disintrest to anyone outside of his Man Utd elite.

Whether Bobby's personality was affected by injury during the crash or by the psychological aftermath I am too young to judge, being only just old enough to see him playing in the early 70s and never wanting to read anything about him because he seemed to repel me at a visceral level. Wheras I hated Jack the footballer for being a big part of dirty Leeds, but never felt any such repusion from him as a person.

I am sorry to hear of Bobby's demise, and pay my respects to him as a fellow human and as a footballing great. I offer my condolences to those that loved him, but won’t, even after his passing, pretend that I had any liking for him.

Excellent post, and I agree with what you say.
I wanted to say similar, but you said it way better than I could have.

Thanks Snag, I worried about posting as there's the pressure to not say anything bad about the dead and also the whole 'If you've got nothing good to say about someone then say nothing' thing.

I never say anything about the dead that I wouldn't have said to their face, and I often do ...

... probably why I have no friends <laugh>

Seriously I have friends I love and have no problem letting them know ...

... but I've dumped friends when I feel they've let themselves down or, worse, let me down.

Don't worry about what you post mate, if it's the truth you're being honest with yourself, for anyone who has a problem ... tough.
