Listening to the Blunderside phone ins for the first time in years, and i've never heard so much bull **** in my life from some fans... We've had a couple of bad games and they're making out we won't make the play offs.. Bandwaggon fans more than likely, KEEP THE BELIEF UTT
I thought the young lad that rang in was spot on, although he spoke for a little longer than he should have. I share his sentiment about the game, I came away frustrated as well.
aye in fairness he made some fair points, but the majority have been ever so negative! Where's the faith!!
Every fan is different just like every person is different. One can not expect everyone to have the same levels of positivity. It doesnt make them any less fans.
These are the same fans who decide we're like Barca and think City are the worlds best team when we're on form.. they **** me off.
I slag other fans off for being so negative! whats the point of moaning all the time cos we lost a couple points! Beleive in the boys!
I am not trying to get on you but everyone is just different. I am sure they mean no harm. Some sports fans even take more pleasure in a loss than a win. A study was done here about Chicago Cubs fans. They have been losing for so long that their brains actually release endorphins when the lose and not when they win. Their body actually responds better to when they suck then when they play well. The point being that just because someone gets pissed off about their team doesnt mean they dont believe in them or want them to do well. It just means they respond differently to the same external stimuli that you respond to.
Well I went today, which from South Cave in this weather took roughly 2 3/4 hours to get there and then the same back. The performance was deserving of a point and I wasn't happy because I felt we didn't play to our best. It was the same after the Doncaster game earlier this season; I came away from that and said "based on that performance we don't deserve to go up." And it's true, if you have those kinds of performances in your locker, like today and last week, then what would happen if we were in the PL and playing Manchester United and played that badly? We have to eliminate the mentality that we can get away with not playing our best. We have to be playing like we did against Leeds every week and if we don't then we will get punished and we won't be third for long. It is hard to find belief when you look at facts, especially when your team has just lost. Your emotions override your sense and you tend to become a bit bleak. Stick a forum or a phone-in into the equation and it's a mess. I think if anything, moaning and being frustrated about a result shows that you are more of a fan, because you let something so trivial as a football result ruin your day. After a win, everybody is happy, excited and can't wait for the next game.
There might be something in that , i can take a season of football misery -relegation to just a doldrum season far far easier to a season filled with hope and promise . Following the Tigers in the 90s and early 2000s was easy in so many ways - thats not to say i dont prefer the blueprint set Bruce/Allams .
[TABLE] [TR] [TD]IF you can keep your head when all about you* Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings* And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch, if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a TIGER, my son! Some people are only happy when they are moaning, whether thats endorphins or whatever. Very true. Like today we got a point away but you'd think we'd lost going by the reaction of some. I don't know about poetry but there's that Garbage song 'only happy when it rains' applies to a lot of people. The fact is there is improvement in the team to come when we get a striker or when a couple of fringe players like Cairney or Proschwitz step up to the plate. A lot of what you see on this forum is overreaction because theres a percentage on here wumming opposition fans and being wummed likewise. Just need to look at the threads since todays game with opposition fans gloating as if we lost when the reality is we are still second on points.
I think unless we change things (transfer market) , automatic promotions might be a push... but I'd be very very surprised if we didn't make the playoffs. Which considering we missed out last few seasons, I'd say would be quite positive... Would we not have taken 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th at the start of the season? I would.
Given the teams we were up against at the start of the season it's pretty impressive that we've been in the top 6 for so long. I expected more of an impact from Wolves, Blackburn, Bolton, Brighton and Blackpool and I think it's a suprise for the neutral to see us and Palace up there and for so long. I think everyone would have been delighted with the play offs at the start and so far we've looked good enough to finish in the top 6. After been in the top 2 and briefly looking good to finish there it would be disappointing to slip into the play offs despite been up against tough competition in Cardiff and Leicester. Long way to go yet though and if we have at least a top 6 finish I think the majority of us would be happy and it would represent a step forward from previous seasons.
