First published Friday 14 November 2014 in Wanderers Bucks Free Press: Photograph of the Author by Andy Carswell, Reporter WANDERERS look set to lose two of the players who've played a key part in taking them to the top of the table - but manager Gareth Ainsworth said he won't let that derail his side's charge to the summit. Defensive duo Danny Rowe and Alfie Mawson were both denied permission to play in Blues' FA Cup first round tie at Barnet by parent clubs Rotherham United and Brentford. The Championship clubs don't want the pair to be cup tied for later rounds of the competition, indicating they could be set for fresh loan moves to different clubs when their Wanderers deals expire in January. Losing them will mean Wanderers' small squad will shrink even further but Ainsworth said he's already lining up replacements - not just for Mawson and Rowe, but for other reinforcements who will allow Blues to keep up their promotion challenge. The Blues boss said: "I've got people lined up in every single position. I've got back ups, and back ups to the back ups, which as a football manager you've got to have. I might lose anyone tomorrow so I have to have back ups. They are there for every position, not just those positions [Rowe and Mawson play in]. "Alfie will definitely be part of the plans until his loan period ends on January 3, and then we'll assess that situation when we get there." Asked if that meant Mawson and Rowe would definitely be recalled, Ainsworth said: "I'm not sure about it. They wouldn't let them play in the first round in the FA Cup and that was as far as that conversation went. "We'll see when January comes, we'll address it if we need to." Rowe, 19, has made ten appearances for Wanderers this season in his second loan spell with the club, while 20-year-old Mawson was an ever present at the heart of the Blues defence prior to Saturday. Ainsworth said: "Alfie's been a top player for me since the start of this campaign. He's grown as a player, he's learnt lots as a player since he's been here." He added: "Part of what we do is develop young talent from other clubs and make them better. We have a responsibility to develop young talent in this country. "Anyone we take on in the future, we'll look to develop. We have an education process here, as well as a results process, and that will hopefully attract more players to Wycombe Wanderers."
getting alfie mawson on a season long loan has to be gazs prority - from what ive seen the kid is a class above any other centre back and quality in the position could be the difference between promotion/playoffs and getting nothing
