Looking at that interview Spark , sounds like Malky is looking for a reaction from VT (although MM was very measured in his wording) .......And I think a reaction is owed to him , and also to the fans

Agreed because if it wasn't spending related what was it? Maybe it is none of our business but would be interesting to know.

It's worth remembering that £9m was spent on 2 players who have not featured this season, and one who may not at all.

In hindsight maybe it would have been best to have spent some more money on someone better than Gunnersson who is a fish out of water, and a better replacement for Campbell who is now possibly showing why he will never make it and a decent winger with pace (if he is not going to play Noone).

I don't think 9mil having absolutely no effect on the first team is 'brilliant work'. It's about a third of our budget, that's the sort of mistake that could have major consequences in May.

I think Gunnar can do a job in the PL, I just think MM asks him to play too high up the pitch. He's not got anything close to the skill set required to play effectively in the final third against PL oppostion. He should be tackling and giving the ball simply to our better players. Whether we need him and Medel doing that is seriously open to debate though. I would drop him on the back of his last couple of performances, just saying I don't think we need to write him off, yet.....

I see Gunnar as a poor man's Medel. Hopefully he'll pick up a few tips. Not sure we need both in the team. Gunnar should become the backup.

It's a hard fact of life in football. As the team gets better some fall by the wayside. First choice players become the bench, the bench becomes the cover and the cover disappears out the door. Some will take it as a challenge and step up (Cowie?), others won't (Kiss?), or won't get the chance (Conway?)

The back 5 look pretty settled with Medel in front of them. The other 5 outfield players still don't seem to have settled. Whether MM doesn't know his best combination or he's deliberately making changes based on what he sees in the opposition I'm not sure. We do seem to change the combination and how we play frequently. MM may see this as a good thing, but I feel it would be good to get a settled team for a few games.

I certainly wouldn't advocate writing Gunnar off as sub-Prem standard. He had a shocker on Saturday and was poor by his usual standards against Newcastle.

I'm coming around to thinking his aggression and never-say-die approach is better suited against the "less talented" outfits we'll play this season. His recent poor speed of thought and awareness was so evident against quality players on Saturday.

Maybe he just needs to sit on the bench and wait his chance again like he's done before. He was a much better player when coming back after being dropped this past two seasons.

Norwich next will be a big test for him if he plays. Malky might prefer to give him another chance against another "also ran" club (no disrespect to Norwich - just reality). The likely outcome would be he'd take it big time popping up to get on the end of something and score.
