This month it appears on Fansonline Link here http://fansonline.net/portsmouth/article.php?id=2701#.UzXL3aIuflc
He sounds genuine enough, BUT, I am still not sure about his overall judgement. After all, Richie Barker was his choice of manager to replace Guy from day one. The board interviewed a number of people, but ended up picking RB. What a coincidence, eh ?
I heard from someone who is adamant that it's true, that Catlin lobbied hard for Barker. How true that might be is anyone's guess, but the Bury link is there although Catlin said he didn't really know him well from that time. If he did know him well enough, then his judgement was impaired. Barker was so obviously not a good fit here. Anyway he's gone off to coach at MK Dons now. So I wish him all the best.
I think its forgivable that Catlin might have lobbied for a manager he's worked well with in the past and who had a decent win ratio previously.
I'm not so sure - how much weight was given to Steve Coppell coming with him? The only thing we "really" know is that the board approached both Paul Tisdale and Chris Wilder because they were given permission to speak to them from their respective clubs. They also sounded out Justin Edinburgh because we know that he wasn't interested. If your mind is made up you don't do that. Mark Catlin is also not a member of the board so all he would be able to do is suggest or recommend, but he certainly has no vote. I can tell you though, straight from the horses mouth, that Mick Williams had to plough through 50 applications.
