Goalscorer Nathan Blissett believes Bristol Rovers are in a “really strong situation” after coming through the festive period unbeaten to close the gap on Vanarama Conference leaders Barnet. He said: “It has been a brilliant Christmas period for us. We were unbeaten and we have closed the gap on Barnet as well. I don’t think we could have asked for a better outcome. We were disappointed not to have beaten Torquay at home on Thursday, but 13 points from a possible 15 over the last five games is a fantastic return. I think we have grown in stature as a team through the Christmas period and at the moment we are in a really strong situation. Our form is good and we have a good number of points on the board. Barnet are looking shaky at the minute, so, hopefully we can catch them up between now and the end of the season. We have 16 cup finals left and we just have to take each one as it comes and see where that takes us, but it is looking good. I’m happy with my goals return since I have been here. I don’t know what the ratio is but things are going along quite steadily. It was a great delivery from Jake and I’ve headed it straight in the top bin. When I saw the ball coming over I knew that it was bread and butter for me. I thought the first goal was also going to be mine, but, credit to Manse for following in and making sure it went over the line. I missed what was virtually an open goal soon after that so I should have been leaving with a hat-trick really. The ball came across pretty quickly and I thought I was going to score before it even got to me. I just have to learn to keep my head and put those ones away in the future. We had to be patient. We’ve had a few problems with part-time teams at times this season, but I think we are learning from past experiences and we know what we have to do to put these types of games to bed. When you build a bit of momentum like we have been doing recently, we’d like to keep it going with another game next week. On the other hand, we have had a lot of games over the festive period and I think a break from it next weekend might actually help us. There are some tired legs in the changing room and maybe a fortnight without a game will leave us fresh to go again over the remainder of the season.” Good interview from him. His head seems in a good place, his feet firmly on the ground! Talking about 16 cup finals and talking about the part of the game that he needs to improve which is keeping his head when he has a chance to score. I like him. Cant wait to see what he can do when he really gets going.
The good thing about Nathan is his attitude and the fact that he's improving all the time. A good signing by DC.
