Uefa has responded to growing concerns over the high cost of watching football in England by reducing the cheapest ticket for this year's Champions League final at Wembley to £68. I don't know where to start, I'm welling up with gratitude!
But they haven't said how many tickets will be available at this giveaway price have they? Probably 100 or so. Only £68 FFS!! It is a severely overpriced game, even my very local team Oadby Town charged me about £5.00 a few years ago and they are in the Midlands Combination or something. It was only back in 1980 that entrance to top flight games (standing admittedly) was £1.00 everywhere and then this rose to £1.20 the following year. The inflation is unbelievable, it really is!
In 1972 City played their first ever top flight match at Carrow Road against Everton. The game finished 1-1 Jimmy Bone scored for City, Joe Royle equalised. please log in to view this image Can anyone guess the adult admission price for the River End and Barclay terraces ? please log in to view this image please log in to view this image The programme price might give you a clue ? please log in to view this image
I played against them earlier this season, it's not a bad ground that (in comparison to most in the league) but completely agree that anyone who comes and watches me play football and has to pay for the privilege are getting completely mugged off - particularly at a rate of £5 per game! A guy from work is desperate for a ticket and was asking me today to register for tickets and if I get them he'd give the money.. At £330 for the most expensive I told him to stop taking the piss!
.........and I'm old enough to remember getting a regular stuffing (ooh matron), at The Portaloo ! How times have changed eh JWm ?
It was the first ever Old Farm Derby played in the top flight! Yes we gave you a few hidings down the years and you us but I suppose I can cling onto the wreckage in the knowledge that we still hold the upper hand in Old Farm wins!
This must be the match then, Terry Anderson (RIP) scoring here in a 2-1 win for us please log in to view this image
Yeah that's the one! 1972/73 was the year when Bobby started to build his first great side with the likes of Burley, Hunter, Beattie and Viljoen. If I remember rightly we had just beaten Man Utd at Old Trafford. Makes me weep now though!
Sorry to hijack this thread but I am curious to know who else went to that first game between us in 1972?
Close it was March 1980 when we stuffed them 6-0 and also missed 2 pens! I remember watching the 'Fashanu' game on TV and god you were unlucky against Liverpool that day!
Can't say I had the pleasure of witnessing that JWM, Dave must have been there he would have been about 40 way back then !
But don't forget, revenge was sweet We may have taken Coventry's crown of recently losing to a non-league side, but - despite Villa's lame capitulation versus Chelsea, the record PL defeat 'prize' is still in the trophy cabinet at the Portaloo
..........anyway, as no-one has bothered to guess the answer to my question I'll give you the answer, wait for it..................... 35p !
