This from the Pink Un: A frustrated Chris Hughton revealed his Norwich City players had failed to heed his half-time warning after slipping to a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Stoke. Poor old Chris. If only he hadn't inherited such a useless shower of players.
I wouldn't have expected him to praise the players after that performance, if he did then I would be a little bit worried. This shows he will get tough with the players.
To be fair he has tried changing things and it still haven't worked, so in my opinion he is trying. If we stay up I'd consider that a success and with players like Wolfswinkel and money left over to buy higher quality players, then I expect CH to have his team and do better next season. But I can understand peoples disappointment, I feel it too. I don't think we're in real danger of going down, I can see us getting 2 or 4 more points, so I'm not really panicking at the moment.
I still cant get over how much of a shocker the team had yesterday. I was fuming at the end of the game just how disapointing our players were. Simple passes going astray, no creative football at all, constant negative pass backs, no one willing to have a shot, sluggish and lazy counter attacking that took the emphasis away everytime, not holding onto possesion or doing very little with it, poor delivery of the ball that went into the keepers arms EVERY time, holding the back line to deep....the list goes on and on. Not all of this can be blamed on the manager im afraid!!!
why should he blame himself? that was as bad a passing performance as i have ever witnessed. CH cannot be held responsible if the players are so shocking at the basics. and they were.
Ok, I have read that article on the Pink'un and to say he is 'blaming the players' is reading to much into it. The actual quote is along the likes we spoke about at half-time that Stoke might if anything get more direct and we need to be careful of that' which I wouldn't call blaming the players at all. And anyway, a) when was the first time he blamed the players for the 'again' in your OP title? and b) do you think the players deserved praise for that game?
I agree with that. There's only so much a manager can do and in the end it's about the way the players perform. Even Snodgrass was poor, and I've never found the need to say that before. The Stoke players were just as bad, but that is no excuse. Hopefully there will be a suitable reaction against Villa on Saturday.
Haven´t seen any of the game yet, but as far as I could understand from listening to ´Player´, from the several corners and free-kicks we won in advantageous positions, we were totally abject at delivering even a half decent delivery, so he´s fully entitled to feel aggrieved at the players. You can hardly blame him for them having a shocker.
I think a lot of it is the fact that many of the current players are finding his negative, two banks of 4, don't concede at all costs style is alien to them. Those that were here under Lambert, Pilks, E Bennett, Johnson etc are used to a more open, attacking style and don't really appear as comfortable playing the current system.
System´s got nowt to do with not being able to put in a decent cross, or corner, or even just pass to a team-mate.
All too often in football in general players do not take enough responsibility (not saying that is necessarily the case here). Many players/fans/clubs seem to blame the manager because its the easy option, for a start there is only one of them! Maybe if things are not working for the team the players should stand up and be counted and take on more responsibility for the teams performance.
bassong was the problem for that goal we conceded if he let go of Jerome and step in front of the player taking the shot he could have stopped it but he just never let go of Jerome . if you watch highlights bassong was pulling Jeromes shirt not letting him go before the ball was even put in the box and he just kept hold of him all the time even when the ball was nowhere near him when it was going to the player who scored bassong had time to let go of jerome and stand and get in the way of the player who scored and might have stopped him but he still kept on holding jerome big mistake.
The movement has been coached and drilled out of the midfield, it's not a case of not being able to pass, its a case of no fluency in the middle for anyone to pass to. It was absolutely shocking the times we had the ball and there was nobody moving to receive it. It was disgraceful, I hate saying it but we are the worst footballing side in the league by some distance. That is a result of the oppressive idiot we have in charge.
I can't believe how most of you are condoning CH for that performance. A one-off shocker out of nowhere - yes, blame the players on the day. But shocker after shocker after shocker from players who we all know can perform very well - it's the manager. He has sucked every bit of confidence out of them. There is no movement at all because he's obsessed with keeping their shape to the extent that they stand there like Easter Island statues. And now even Snodgrass, the last one to fall, seems to have succumbed to the fear and negativity. And when has he blamed them before? In almost his first interview after he got the job, when he said that many of them weren't good enough for the Premiership. Wonderful man-management, Chris. If there's anyone who isn't good enough for the Premiership, it is you, with your dinosaur football and your complete inability to change something which is clearly not working.
Also, it's interesting that, after a half in which we didn't manage a single shot on target, CH's half-time talk seemed to be about the need to defend more carefully. It's like a mother saying to a child "Be careful, be careful, you'll fall, you'll fall". And guess what? - the child falls. I can't wait for him to go and take his baneful influence with him.
