Powell sticks with Waggy; Green remains on the bench. I would have liked to see an extra striker on the bench over Andy Hughes though. Two strong teams that will be right up there at the end of the season; this is a 6 pointer. I think we'll nick it. Maybe 3-2. Sheffield Utd 01 Simonsen 02 Lowton 03 Lescinel 15 Collins 19 Maguire 08 Doyle 14 Williamson 27 McDonald 28 Quinn 09 Evans 21 Porter Substitutes 25 Long, 33 Parrino, 04 Montgomery, 11 Flynn, 17 Cresswell Charlton 01 Hamer 05 Morrison 06 Taylor 16 Wiggins 20 Solly 04 Jackson 08 Stephens 11 Wagstaff 22 Hollands 09 Hayes 10 Wright-Phillips Substitutes 13 Sullivan, 28 Cort, 02 Hughes, 07 Green, 36 Kermorgant COYR!
Sod it - back home... Had to get off the M1 at Derby because of an accident, decided to go up via Chesterfield and crawling up to a set of lights some bloody idiot smashed straight into the back of me. Bloody Hellfire.
Rotten luck, Tewks. I trust you are totally unhurt? And your car not damaged too badly? Your health is the main thing, more important than your car or any football match (well, maybe not more important than the Play-Off Final if we are in that). Seriously I hope you are o.k. and listening to the commentary instead as a poor second best. We are doing alright so far. I would be very happy with a point but maybe Green and Kermorgant can come on and nick us all three. Sounds like Waggy is the weak link, failing to get any crosses in.
Thank Eddie, a bit shaken but unhurt. Car's back bumper won't last too much longer, the tailgate isn't securing properly and the exhaust is rattling like a tin can with stones in it, but it could have been worse - goodness only knows what he was doing to hit me that hard in a line of crawling traffic - he actually shunted me into the bloke in front. Damnation. I'm with Tesco Insurance and they've just dealt with it smooth as silk - car being picked up first thing Monday and a loaner dropped off.
Great stuff, stoked here. Well done charlie ! (Jonjo booted a 30+yard goal for blackpool today for those who care)
sorry to hear about your accident tewkes hope you are ok ,well done to charlton,as for wycombe sounded like we were crap
Sitting here in total disbelief. What a brilliant result. I said before the season started that I though something extraordinary could happen this time round, but I didn't expect anything like this start. And of all the signings CP has made, could Kermorgant's be the most significant of the lot? 'The man nobody wanted' - well we said 'yes' - more fool them.
i should give a team talk glad your ok tewskbury!****ing drivers sometimes !we had an asshole smash into us no insurance taken 6 months sort out.i told u we would win
hope your ok Tewkes it sounds like you missed one cracker of a result i'd have taken a point on offer so to get all three exceeds my expectations today before we played MK Dons I said we have an opportunity to really start to pull away from the pack and we've done just that today...5 points clear....starting to very much believe....
Doing OK Martinho, thanks - I couldn't see anything past a draw today, but it's clear that nothing presents an obstacle to this team, they don't respect reputations, big names, key players or anything - they just go out and do their job to the best of their ability, play attractive, patient football and are happy and proud to play for Charlton Athletic. We can't ask for more really, can we?
Well done to all those posters who had more faith than me and forecast a win. I would cheerfully have settled for a point. Not great in the first half but outplayed them in the second half which was especially commendable since it was a very warm afternoon and we had a tough game midweek while Sheff Utd rested. I am now finally convinced we have the best team in the division with good squad depth too. However we won in spite of, rather than because of, our midfield. We haven't recaptured the flowing passing in midfield of the first few games. Let's hope Alonso gets fit soon to give someone else a rest. Maybe we will see him play 90 minutes in the "Watching Paint Dry" trophy? Other downsides on a great afternoon were that Waggy and Kermorgant could both have received red cards. Waggy's could have cost us the game at that stage and I was surprised CP did not immediately sub him. Kermorgant's little kick at an opponent came when we were home and dry, but that makes it all the more stupid. At least Waggy's came when he was over-excited trying to redeem his bad error but K's was when nothing was happening. Stupid, and maybe a clue why his career has never gone anywhere despite his obvious talent. When he joined I said he could be the "Cantona of Div One" and he is showing some of the same characteristics, good and bad. Hamer and the back four are all looking a very solid unit and BWP is working harder than I thought possible. We just need Green playing regularly and Stephens and Hollands to recapture their earlier form (or Alonso to come in). Well done, CP and the boys. You have exceeded my wildest expectations!
I was very nervous before this game- so now I'm both relieved and delighted! It's hard to tell whether CP's game plan for both MK and SU was to keep it tight in the first half and to be more expressive in the second, but from what I saw today matched the midweek game. Rod eour luck at times in the first half- think Stephens cleared off the line from a header. One thing I will say thoygh- whilst they got forward much more in the first half, I was never too worried about conceding. Our defence, for the first time in years, looks solid! Wiggins was superb again. Second half started in the same vain as the first- but once we got a hold of the game we scored within minutes. Clincal being the word in that sense! Great cross from Stephens and, well you know the rest. Ermmmm, Hamer flapped at a few crosses, but his handling on shots was flawless. To summarise, it was a game where Sheff Utd fans could argue they deserved something, but then again we were solid when needed and scored the goals to get all 3 points.
It was Jackson that cleared it off the line. I thought Sheffield United were only OK really. Like SuperChrissy, other than that free header that was cleared off the line, we were surprisingly comfortable defensively (even with Hamer flapping a little in the first half). Think our left side looks really good at the moment, and Kermit has a great first touch MOTM for me: Morrisson. Wiggins was also great. Of the other results, Brentford 0-4 Huddersfield stands out. So does Wednesday's win at Hartlepool.
