    Unless things go badly wrong and Blackpool win their last three games, including the one going on now, seven nil each time then the Toon are safe.

    For this season at least.

    Not quite, since we'd lose at least 2 goal difference from losing both of those games.

    Wolves can't catch us
    West Ham can't catch us

    Wrong we are mathmatically safe; Wigan gan only get 42pts, Wolves 43pts and West Ham 39pts (As Wigan play West Ham next week that is the max for each team but they will take pts off each other so they will not both be able to achieve their max)

    10 Newcastle 36 -1 44
    17 Wigan 36 -23 36
    18 Blackpool 35 -22 35
    19 Wolves 35 -23 34
    20 West Ham 36 -23 33

    So yeah we are guaranteed to finish above three teams. We are safe

    In that case, I apologise for the false alarm and open something from the cellar to celebrate. Mind you, the cellar has been half way emptied today anyway.
