Blackpool Gazette on Twitter: "Blackpool have approached Nigel Adkins to become their new manager." https://twitter.com/The_Gazette
I'd be disappointed as I think he deserves a better job than that, but if it makes him happy and he wants it then all the best and wish him well.
Soon as I heard Adkins was getting sacked I put a bet on I got 2/1 which isn't bad considering it is now 1/12 in a lot of bookies.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that Adkins approached Blackpool in November when he thought was going to be sacked then, before Cortese decided to keep him and Appleton was subsequently appointed. Let's be fair, it's a good fit for him. They have a bit of money, they like playing football the right way, and they're a lot closer to home for him. I'm sure he'll be successful there and I wish him luck.
Their chairman is incredibly tight and doesn't really financially back his managers. There is a reason why appleton left so soon after being appointed.
Yeah because he's a man who's used to getting financial backing from his club. He left because he got a better offer, simple as that.
we all love NA but he's not a proven Premiership manager, not by a long way. Not that I don't think he's got the ability, but to be fair Blackpool seems like a pretty good job for him. They've got some really good players there and might even be able to scrape the play-offs this season.
Adkins hardly had much to work with at Scunthorpe. A lot of wheeling and dealing, loaning and picking up young talents and giving them a break. Hooper is just one example, jettisoned by Southend and in the reserves but Adkins plucked him out of there.
Blackburn are a good club, they've got a bigger fan-base, and better facilities. Sure, Venky's make Cortese look like Confucius, but the fact remains they were a premier league side last season and they have still got a premier league setup.
After Nigel's efforts he deserves a really decent job. Trouble is, all the really good jobs are taken. Managing Blackpool isn't going to make the CV look better. Like I said yesterday, no disrespect to Blackpool, but with a chairman who actually doesn't back his manager too well, he'd be better off looking elsewhere. Actually, he could probably be doing with taking a holiday to charge the batteries. That would be my advice and to come back itching to start again.
If Nigel wants to get straight back in football, then Blackpool does seem the obvious choice. I can't see a PL team going for him, not at this stage in his career - and besides, there aren't any vacanies at present. And you don't generally get too many top 6 Championship clubs looking for a new manager in January. I think he's unlucky that his sacking and SOD's sacking at Forest didn't happen around the same time, because I think Forest would have been a better choice for him than Blackpool. Money to spend, some players he knows, and in my opinion a much greater chance of promotion this season. Blackpool do appear to be a club on the down at the moment - and not just since losing Holloway. I think wherever he goes though, I'll wish him and that club all the best.
