View attachment 17900 vs Blackburn Rovers are the first of the 3 recently relegated teams to make the trip to the Valley this season. They had a good start to the season being unbeaten in their first 6 and picking up 14 points. In their last game however they went down 2-1 to Middlesbrough. Jutkiewicz bagged a brace for Middlesbrough and put them 2-0 before Hanley grabbed a late consolation. Charlton where on the other end of a 2-1 scoreline and also picked up their first win of the season on the road when they beat Ipswich last weekend. The Charlton goals came from skipper Johnnie Jackson and new boy Ricardo Fuller. Jason Scotland grabbed a goal back for Ipswich but Charlton where able to hold on. Team against Blackburn Rovers Hamer Wilson Morrison Cort Solly Green Stephens Jackson Kerkar Wright-Phillips Fuller Subs Button Dervite Evina Hollands Pritchard Haynes Wagstaff Hopefully we are playing Blackburn at the right time. They weren't that convincing in their win against Barnsley and then they went and lost their first game against Middlesbrough. Lets hope they are starting a bad spell and their won't be a reaction from them tomorrow as they have many players capable of winning this game for them. We all no about Jordan Rhodes and what a capable goalscorer he is although he didn't have the best time against us last season there is no doubting his goalscoring ability and with Nuno Gomes playing alongside him Blackburn have a deadly striking partnership. They also have a host of experience in the middle of the park with Dickson Etuhu, David Dunn and the man who will be villian of the Afternoon Danny Murphy. On paper this looks like a tough game with all the experienced players Blackburn have at their disposal they should in theory stream roll us over. However in the championship this is never the case and you only have to look at Barnsley beating Birmingham 5-0 at st andrews last week to know we can get something from this game. My prediction 3-2 Charlton (Fuller, Wright-Phillips, Kerkar - Nuno Gomes, Dann)
Please make sure you pelt Danny Murphy with coins, lighters, pies or even bricks (security isn't that tight) for me. Agree completely re the team selection. I think it would have been hard for the players to ignore the distractions going on at the club this week. Kean has apparently been in and out of meetings missing a couple sessions if the press is to be believed. I even think that loon, Sheppy(??) wants them to lose this game and there will be a lot of pressure on the management, but more importantly the players too. I'm hoping that there slow attack will play in to our hands. Morro easily dealt with Rhodes twice last season, and the only think this partnership seem suspect to is pace. They do have the ability to change it up though by introducing players like Rochina so we can't get complacent. I'm going for a 1-0 to Charlton. Think I'm going to back BWP with the goal - it's about time he got a bit of luck.
I'm going 2-1 with us taking a two goal lead then letting Blackburn get back into it..... brown trouser time for last 20 minutes.... like usual
Can't see us winning this one sadly regardless of all the off the field issues. I'll go for 3-1 to Blackburn
So Steve Kean has been forced to resign, lets hope with the vocal section of the Blackburn fans getting what they want , we now thump them. I feel the players will be demoralised & we will win 3-0
Even though I thought this bloke was completely out of his depth, he maintained a stolid dignity throughout this whole sorry saga. Anybody who criticises our board should take a very good look at his bunch of clowns and think themselves very lucky.
And back to the game... Thanks Belvedere, well up to your usual high standard. This is a Premiership side in all but name, and I'd be very happy with a point from this one tomorrow. I'd still like to see Evina in and Solly returned to his rightful position, but I can't see it happening in practice. I'm going for 1-1. We'll have the privilege of seeing a truly World-class striker in Nuno Gomes (albeit in the twilight of his career, although with four goals in seven games and looking as fit as a butcher's dog, no-one seems to have told him) and IMO one of the finest players ever to appear in the top flight, Morten Gamst Pedersen - sheer class. I'm down for this one, and the Watford game and thoroughly looking forward to both.
Very very tough game, but I always want a win at home, even against a team who (with or without kean) I think are on their way back up to the Prem. No predictions from me as they bring hideous luck, but I'll be following the game from windy rainy Spain.
Bad news for us that Kean has resigned. His position was obviously deteriorating, and I was hoping that he would hang on for one last game against us before resigning. Now their fans will be back behind them and I don't think the team will be demoralised, far from it. His record as manager has been awful, would YOU want him as manager?
2-2 for me, fancy fuller to score. Blackburn ooze quality across the park, and think the experience of their midfield will help the transition whilst they're without a manager. So, goalscorers will be Morrison, Fuller, Nuno and Rhodes. A point will be a good result even in these circumstances.
Will be hard to win this one, but i have a strong feeling we will win 3-1, a result like this tonight could see a run forming in the next month. Go Charlton ! A great test as to how we are travelling at the very least tonight. Let's get behind our boys !
