    Unbeaten superstar Black Caviar retired

    BY PETER SCARGILL 6:46AM 17 APR 2013

BLACK CAVIAR has been retired after 25 unbeaten starts after connections "felt it was the right time to call time on her wonderful career".

Trained by Peter Moody throughout her unbeaten career, which involved a narrow victory in last year's Diamond Jubilees Stakes at Royal Ascot, Black Caviar won 15 times at Group 1 level and just short of Aus $8 million in prize-money.

No plans have been revealed about who the star mare will be covered by now she has been retired.

    More to follow. . .

Would have loved her to come here and win properly at Ascot this time.

Happy retirement to her, hopefully she will produce many healthy offspring!

The Frankel meeting is now very unlikely to happen It costs around £100,000 to fly a horse from Australia to the UK and as there is not the incentive of running at Royal Ascot beforehand I can't see it happening.

If she is covered by an Australian stallion and gets in foal the meeting is even less likely. I can't see them sending her to foal in the Northern Hemisphere, which she would have to do as the risks of flying a newborn that far are too great. Frankel will never shuttle to the south, so the only possioble chance I can see is if she turns up barren one year they may decide to take the option to fly her up here.
