All this talk about who's best in central midfield and who can adapt/be ''coached'' into playing out wide is all a bit academic if we persist with just hoofing it up from the back and bypassing midfield completely.<doh>

Personally i wouldnt want either but cant see mick going 3412!! I would rather play Bish in his natural position and get a winger in, if he has lost faith with current wingers!!
As big Al says, its all academic if we persist playing hoofball

In an ideal world, we'd get in a natural winger during the loan window, or, fingers crossed, Cameron Stewart will come back to full fitness and instantly come into form on his return, but I doubt it at this stage. With regards to the current squad and predicament, ahead of the game against Rotherham this weekend, we have a player in Bishop, who doesn't often start recently, who has the capabilities of playing out wide. I say give him a chance, certainly if he isn't going to start in his natural position. A player of his natural quality, and willingness to get forward, should, in my opinion, be starting against a side like Rotherham, where he can hopefully inflict some damage and introduce some creativity into a side that's looked a bit stale over the last few weeks (blanks against Derby, Southampton, and Wigan).

Of course, the direct playing style is a problem for players like Bishop, who seems to prefer the ball at his feet. But during the peak of our form, we had the confidence to string a few passes together and play, at times, some pretty decent football. If the results come back, hopefully that style should return too. Bishop is used to a direct style of play, after all I presume that's what we practice in training. We have Kevin Bru from the centre, who's arguably been our best player recently, so moving Bish to the right wing isn't much a gamble, as we have a creative presence, of sorts, already in the centre.

See what your saying but Bru is no Bishop, Bishop should be starting every game, not just against lowly sides like Rotherham, who btw are no mugs!! For me this would be my starting 11,

    Bart

    Chambers
    Smith
    Berra

    Parr
    Bishop
    Bru
    Mings

    Ambrose

    Sears
    Murphy

You wouldnt need a DM in the centre as you are playing with 3 CB's, so its goodbye to Skuse and Tabb, hello attacking football with creativity!!

If i had to go 442 like Mick favours then it would have to be

    Bart

    Parr
    Chambers
    Berra
    Mings

    Ambrose
    Bishop
    Bru
    Hunt

    Murphy
    Sears

Sorry but i hate the def midfielder, would rather you give opposition something to worry about, not worry about the opposition and try to negate them!!

It's an ideal formation, that would effectively utilise the full strength of our defence, which is probably our strongest area. However, I think you need a defensive-minded midfielder in the centre, otherwise we're going to be very vulnerable to counter-attacks.

    Biaz

    Smith
    Chambers
    Berra

    Mings
    Parr

    Tabb
    Bishop

    Bru

    Sears
    Murphy

In my mind, that offers more security in the team, particularly as, Wigan game aside, we're looking defensively suspect. We still have the wing-backs able to bomb up and down the flanks, so that central defence can spread out slightly and Tabb, who is capable of starting moves in attack, can serve as a more box-to-box midfielder, also offering a defensive cover to allow Bishop to attempt dribbles forward.

But yeah, I'd like to see us attempt something different to a 4-4-2, the formation looks a bit outdated now. How about this 4-2-3-1? It's the "in" formation these days, or at least variations of it:

    Biaz

    Parr (RB)
    Chambers
    Berra
    Mings

    Tabb
    Bishop

    Ambrose
    Bru
    Sears

    Murphy

The attacking trio looks pretty tasty behind Murphy.

Personally I would like to see Goldy in behind Sears and Murphy as an attacking 3.

Ah, 4-3-3? Bishop and Bru in the middle, Tabb/Skuse just behind?

Not sure why all of a sudden Didsy is the fall guy in all of this, a few weeks back when we were playing a more adventurous style of play he was everyone's playmaker, surely the dip in his form is as much to do with the God awful style of play we have adapted since the Xmas period!

You may be right hoppers but didz body language has not been good imo!! Nuggets, dont agree as with 3 cb's you dont need another central protector and as they say attack is the best means!! Still, its a matter of opinions and we all know Mick will go 442

I think Goldy has always had a kind of uninterested body language ..I think that's just how he is.....I don't for one minute believe he is uninterested or lacking commitment because I'm sure MM would be the first to spot any drop in these areas.
