Agree that it's not rocket science, but definitely disagree about the different positions. For example a striker has to have the ability to play with his back to goal (something that a lot of people find very difficult... even in the professional game) A central midfielder doesn't have the luxury of a touchline (for the most part) so peripheral and positional awareness are more vital, so they can understand and read what is going on around them. Whereas a wide midfield player has the safety of a touchline with (again, for the most part) the game going on to one side, knowing they have to open there body out to receive the ball from a 180 angle rather than 360. Therefore positioning is inherently easier as there is a white line as a reference.. (Much like lines on a road for lorry drivers) As humans are creatures of habit, removing or adding those elements will throw almost anyone. Having played most positions, the hardest to look good (for 90 minutes) is central midfield. The easiest by a long shot is full back.
I don't disagree KoPr ....but I do think that a decent footballer should be more than capable of adapting to different positions or roles pretty quickly.
Really? So you think Tabb should be able to become a CB pretty quickly and Skuse a CF? Sorry weighty but dont agree, oh hold on, you said decent footballer!!
Careful with that sarcasm......... Tabb lacks the physical attributes in my opinion to play CB.... But Stockwell was hardly Hightower and managed, as for Skuse...................yes I said decent footballer.........................to clarify I mean that it's not out of the question that some players can play different positions (not all) and we should not judge their ability before we have seen them in the position for a few games.
Must admit i cant ever recall seeing Stockwell at CB but then the old brain cells these days.... Just think that Bish is our best CM so why take him out of that position?
Off topic for a min, do any of you Whitton boys know Junior Soanes? Its just i used to play up front with him for Suffolk and wondered what he was up to these days!!
Agree I'm sure Bish could do a job out there more than Tabb could anyway, infact probably more than Anderson could also. Would rather he stayed in the centre but to be honest I'm surprised Mick has played him centrally already in his previous teams he rarely plays flair/creative players centrally. The ones which annoy me most are Chambers at RB, Tabb at LM and Hyam as an attacking midfielder.
He's a young player, so I don't see the harm by trying him out wide to see how he does. We lack pace and creativity down the flanks and Bishop provides both qualities, and he has an eye for a pass. If we're not moving for a winger in the loan market, which would be a naive decision in my opinion, then we're going to have to make do with what we've got. Making full use of the squad, either way, is paramount. So if they coaching team thinks Bishop has the qualities to be a threat down the wing, then go ahead a do it. At least he'll start a match. I agree, to an extent, with Spanish, regarding playing players in their 'natural' positions. However, football is full of examples of players who have moved positions and gone on to become better players. In that respect, I think it'd be fairly narrow-minded if we just kept Bishop in the middle because he's traditionally seen as a central player. The likes of Thierry Henry and Christiano Ronaldo have benefited by being moved further up the field and, particularly in Henry's case, becoming a more central player. Likewise, Stewart Downing has considerably improved his performances after being moved centrally from a previous wide position. It's either Bish or Tabb. I know who I'd prefer starting down the wing on Saturday. (Hint, the first one).
