Just read this little article about how Mick says he could move Bish out wide and how he likes he players to be able to play in a variety of roles!

The sight of Teddy Bishop lining up on the right of midfield might become more familiar in the weeks to come with manager Mick McCarthy believing that the 18-year-old is capable of operating in a variety of roles.

Bishop has played most of his senior football in central midfield so far but replaced Paul Anderson on the right during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Wigan, having played the same position for the U21s in their 1-1 draw with Cardiff earlier last week.

“He’s not a winger as such but somebody who can play on the right-side of midfield,” McCarthy said. “There is a difference.

Now call me old fashioned but i believe you should play people in their proper positions. I mean, you could say Tabb could play CB, which is true but it dont mean he would be any good!! Sorry but Mick has to get out of this bloody frustrating and damn right annoying habit of moving players about to accomodate his favourites!! Tabb is not a left winger, Chambers is not a right back and Bishop is not a right winger. If you are not happy with the players you have for those positions, go get in new players who are accustomed to playing in those positions, dont sling in your favourites just because you dont want to drop them!! How long have we been without a bloody decent right back? Its crazy that this has not been addressed!!
Sort it out Mick, grow some balls and play players in their natural positions!!

Spot on Espagnol! Bish and Bru need to be in the middle, trying to create forward, attacking moves, threading balls thru to Sears, Murph and maybe McG if he condescends to start playing for us again and recovers his form!

Nothing wrong with players in different positions....I remember that Mick Stockwell played every position on the pitch except GK and never let himself or the team down........the ability to utilise players in different roles just makes it easier to keep a small compact happy squad.

    IMO.

I partly agree with you spanish - what makes a good wide man/winger is a) the ability to get past opponents, b) some speed and c) the ability to dliver a good cross. Well, we know Bish can get past players, and has some degree of speed, but, as for his crosses, i really don't know as he's nt been in that position too often. He's also a very young lad, who has got a great deal of learning to do, and with the right coaching probably could make a good wide man.
I agree that players should be played in the best position, but, thats not to say that a player can play well in more than one role (i remember a certain Thierry Henry playing on the wings for the first few years at Juve and Arsenal) Bish is still a raw talent, and i'm pretty sure that given the right coaching, could do a decent job out wide. (but it would be nice if we had a recognised right back playing in that position)

The point is weighty, to get the best out of a player, you play him in his correct position!! If you feel that, lets say, your right midfielder is not up to it, bring in someone new that would be an improvement. Do not take your best CM and move him out wide as this therefore weakens your centre midfield and you still dont have a natural winger!

I totally agree - but as i've said, he's still a boy, and still needs to find his feet in the game, and that he may even end up being a qinger/wide man.

Similarly to you Spanish, right players in their right position all day long..............

However. How Many sides in a 4-4-2 play wide men these days? Sides usually have one hug the line winger, with another midfielder who comes in more.

Bishop is WAY more suited than Tabb out wide, so it would be a work in progress for me. Not perfection, but better.............

FFS Mick had found a winning formula-look at the last game of our great run. Charlton at home, where we won 16 corners(as opposed to 4 on Saturday!!)
Then we played Saints in the Cup and because MM feared a pasting we went back into our defensive shell and haven't emerged since!

Funny you mention corners Bigal as me and the old man were only talking about the lack of corners, we have won recently, the other day! Against Soton away we won no corners and sunce then......... Now as we are very dangerous from corners, that is a big miss imo!!
Totally agree, we have lost that attack minded play of late and its no coincidence results have been poor also!

I understand that some players are more suited to certain roles and positions but at its only bloody kicking heading and running, a decent footballer should be able to play in other areas GK apart.........it's football not rocket science if you can pass from the centre surely you can pass from out wide..........maybe I'm just old fashioned.
