QPR coach Marc Bircham has told talkSPORT that the club are disappointed with the length of Joey Bartonâs ban for violent conduct. The temperamental midfielder has been handed a 12-game ban by the FA after he was found guilty of two charges of violent conduct during his sideâs clash with Manchester City. Barton, 29, received a four-game ban after being red carded during the clash on the last day of the Premier League season for elbowing Carlos Tevez. And he has now been handed an extra eight following a rampage after the dismissal which saw him kick Sergio Aguero and attempt to headbutt Vincent Kompany. After the Football Association announced his suspension, Bircham told Drive Time: âSpeaking from the football side of things, weâre just disappointed at the length of the ban, 12 games is a hell of a long time to be missing a top player who is also your captain. âWhat weâre most disappointed about is we got a glimpse of how well Joey can do in the last two months of the season and now the season has ended like it did and we wonât have him for the first 12 games of the season.â http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/120523/exclusive-%E2%80%93-bircham-qpr-are-disappointed-length-barton%E2%80%99s-ban-172805? If Marc Bircham is talking on behalf of the club and not just his own oppinion it doesn't look like they want to get rid. Thoughts?
'speaking from the football side of things....' may be the key statement. Wait until we hear something from Hughes, Tony, Beard or Amit.
This from the man who said the kids he coaches in Canada looked at him dismayed when he told them to cheat when they get into the penalty box. Pinch of salt.
On reflection I can't believe Bircham is speaking on behalf of the club. Just read on BBC that club spokesman said there will be no comment until after internal investigation. Looks like Bircham could be in a bit of trouble.
You're right Stan, Bircham will a bit of a prat if the club suddenly charge Barton with gross misconduct!
I imagine the club would have told everyone what they are allowed or not to say on the incident. There will be an official Club line which they should followed, obviously that could be your allow to say anything but I'm pretty sure they all would had something to follow to keep a consistent line.
I'm disappointed with the length of the ban. If it had been 24 games, it might have been easier for the club to sack him
Despite what we think, 12 games is excessive, bearing in mind the 8 game ban that Ben Thatcher got for a far, far worse incident. If anything, the length of the ban will possibly make some of those within the club feel more inclined to be sympathetic to Barton's cause and feel he's been punished enough. So ironically, a hefty ban in some way makes it less likely that he'll be leaving. Just throwing that out there...
Don't think management will be too pleased that they are losing a "squad of 25" player, Willy, that they're paying a weekly fortune to, until November due to his own reckless behaviour. If I was TF, I wouldn't be sitting at my desk thinking, "Poor old Joey, he's gonna get so bored, still he's got his £70,000 weekly pay check and 24/7 twitter, bless!"
