Firstly, I think we all agree his pen miss is way behind him now, great fox in the box goals saturday and i feel he has now settled, got the goals he needed and ready for the final furlong. Secondly, I couldnt believe some of the things our blue few from up the road were saying to him on twitter, I read one of the messages yesterday and was abosultely disgusted. How a fellow human being can ask how your dead son is is completely beyond me and for me the culprit should be doing time for saying things like that on a social network site!!! Is it just me or would this sick rant only come from a skate!!! I have to say that Billys celebration was completely justified and for me he is already a legend for those goals. I actually wanted pompey to survive (as a club not in the championship) but following those twitter comments I really couldnt care less, which is a shame seeing as they do have some regular fans who wouldnt spout such vile abuse. COYR lets win today and finish off this job.......
A fan from another team has already done this, so sadly it looks like it will be common when Sharpie scores. Don't tar all Pompey fans with the same brush as most will be as horrified as us.
I agree that the abuse is quite sickening but it one sad individual. Please, let's not give the creep what he would no doubt want, and repeat what he said on here. Hopefully the police will track him down. Perhaps he needs psychiatric help?
He would need more than psychiatric help if I got hold of him.........Mind you I would be down behind an extremely long queue.....!
I'm afraid it's just you saintern - twitter has got nothing whatever to do with football allegiances. You should have seen some of the tweets sent to Billy Sharp when he was still at Doncaster, they were indescribable. I found it very hard to understand the tweets that were sent by 'scummers' to Greg Halford and Stephen Henderson back in December before our last encounter. What kind of person would wish a young 23 year old to die in a car crash? That's the first time I've used that word on here - they were not Saints fans, those tweets were sent by the scum of the earth, the keyboard warriors with brains full of maggots, the mentally sick, the spleen full of bile. Definitely very low IQs. We don't get to see the worst of the tweets - only those that are retweeted. I've given up being shocked by the vile kind of individual that inhabits this world - I'm just glad that I don't know any of them.
I don't want an all out war on twitter and face book users, but occasional high-profile prosecutions, like the recent racism case, will just remind people that you are not above the law and are responsible for your actions. Similarly, I have no sympathy for hackers who cry it was only a game when they cause distress and expense to others.
Personally I would like these morons exposed and sent down for a short while......let some of the guys inside take it out of their ass......they will soon learn what it is like to be on the receiving end of unwanted attention..........
Yes, but rather than the thread be deleted surely if I was asked, the quote could have been deleted? More sensible option
Yes, and I am afraid that is my fault. I was on my phone and did try to delete the tweet, but it wouldn't go. I did send you a PM. It's not the subject matter, but posting the tweet which was the issue. We have had this before and I was surprised that finding his words so disgusting as everyone does, you thought it would be acceptable to repeat them on a public message board.
Whether I was right or wrong to post the tweet, there are better ways to have gone about it than delete the whole thread
As I said, if I could have deleted just the tweet, I would have done, but my first responsibility was to get those disgusting words off our board. If you really want to discuss this further, perhaps via PM might be a more appropriate way? Anyway, lunchtime for me and the best thing is that I am not cooking it!
Which is why I suggested that Sharp close his Twitter and Facebook accounts, albeit temporarily. The proverbial cat is out of the bag. Yes, one could say that the evil buggers have won, if you do it, but by letting it carry on, by being a target, everyone eventually loses, because rules in social networks will inevitably become tighter. I fully agree that people should learn to behave better, but if something is not done rather quickly and effectively all players and people in the public eye will become targets, and the one personal connection between the fan and the celebrity will become censored. By the way, CF. You did the right thing, IMO.
It just sickens me and I am sure in this day and age, if people say things like that they should be brought to rights. Sharp posted a comment on there yesterday about portsmouth fans abusing him on twitter so he has obviously had a few. Still, get us up, score goals and they will be going the other way anyway and we wont have to tolerate them next season!
OK then, what would you do..? And please, don't give me the I'd go around his house with iron bars stuff. What would you legally do to stop this abuse, without making a sensation of it..?
