Isaw - I can remember him playing with your namesake at the end of the 70's. He had much the same scoring record as Ronnie, but at least he played midfield. Reminded me a bit of Gibbo - small but not afraid to get stuck in. Only 58 too. Makes you think - it's my 58th this year. RIP to him - hope I get a bit longer before that comes up for me.

Never nice to hear of someone passing, but 58 is no age. Appealed to a lot of the Bluebird faithful as he was a grafter. We could do with someone like him today.

At 5'4" he was probably shorter than most on here Taff. Didn't let his size get in the way. Was a wholehearted player.
One of my favourite City players. 58 is no age. Grateful to him for netting the winner when City avenged the jacks in easter 1980 for that excruciatingly agonising loss on new years day 1980.
2-1 on New Year's day and John Lewis stuck one in from a long way out, if my fading memory recalls. My dad (who is also no longer with us, but had a longer innings than Billy) in his infinite wisdom decided we'd be safer on the North Bank than visiting as an away supporter, so long as we kept our mouths shut. 15 years of age, couldn't keep my moth shut when we scored. Got out in one piece though.

To me he was a typical Cardiff player if there is such a thing, always gave 100% and was a credit to the shirt. RIP Billy.
When I saw him play against us for Blackpool I thought at the time that he would have been an ideal player for us. Then we signed him for I think was a record fee at the time of over £100k. He was a busy player, gave 100% in every match and encouraged players around him to get stuck in - just the sort of player we could do with now. If he wasn't captain he should have been with his never say die attitude. While he was not nearly as skillful as Ian Gibson (but unlike Gibbo played for the full 90 minutes - sorry don't see the comparison) he was very very effective. 58 is far too young.
whoops - agree about the skill factor, but the comparison with Gibbo was that they were both played in midfield, both were relatively small, both were busy players and got stuck in despite their size. The skill factor is another issue - Gibbo was a supreme provider compared to Ronson's sheer effort. It's like comparing Toshack and Bothroyd. Both were target men, both were 6' 3" and both could head a ball. On the other hand Bothroyd was the far more skillful player with his feet but fell over a lot more than Tosh - hey ho. There are similarities you'll see in players, but there'll always be differences as well.
