Billy Jones out of WBA game

Billy Jones is set to miss out on a dream Sunderland debut against his old club West Bromwich Albion.

The right-back has been suffering from a hamstring strain that has kept him out of Sunderland’s last two friendlies, and which will also keep him out of this afternoon’s final dress rehearsal against Udinese.

And Black Cats boss Gus Poyet says it will be around another week before Jones returns to training, which means he will not be ready to face the Baggies at The Hawthorns on the opening day a week today.

“I think it will take at least another week for him to train with us,” said Poyet, who snapped up the 27-year-old on a Bosman when the defender’s contract with Albion expired this summer.

Lets hope Vergini had a stormer and its a good competition for Jones to get into the team.

I've just read a tweet from him stating rumours of his missing the WBA game are misleading? He will train this week and have a fitness test Friday according to the player himself.

 

More likely Poyet's just keeping his likely team selection secret ......... I think Jones will play.
