GUS POYET has confirmed that Sunderland are taking a close look at ex-France international Anthony Reveillere, with fellow right-back Billy Jones on the treatment table. Jones suffered an injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Middlesbrough last week and has been ruled out of tomorrowâs trip to Southampton. With on-loan Liverpool centre-half Sebastian Coates also on the sidelines, Poyet has just four first-team defenders available for the clash at St Maryâs. That has prompted Sunderland to take free agent Reveillere on trial, with the 34-year-old - released by Serie A outfit Napoli at the end of last season - training at the Academy of Light this week. Reveillere has impressed Poyet, with the head coach expecting to decide in the next few days whether Sunderland can agree a short-term deal for the former Lyon man. Poyet said today: âHe knows the role, he can go forwards. âHe was in Italy last year which is a different football. âBut heâs very experienced and knows the game. âHe reads the game well, is comfortable on the ball and knows plenty of things. âItâs just a matter of seeing the physical side of England and seeing what heâs going to get. âEverybody knows that we were maybe a player short in defence. âWe were coping with the situation the best we can. âBut weâre still short and weâre looking at options. âAs soon as the transfer window finished, we were always looking at options. âAnthony has great experience and is a very good professional. âThe idea was to see if he knows what heâs going to get in England, if he can adapt and if he likes it. âHeâs training with us and he looks very good. âItâs just a matter of seeing in the next few days if we can do something.â Jones joins Coates, Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricky Alvarez on the treatment table, with Sunderlandâs squad stretched for the first time during Poyetâs tenure. âItâs the first time that Iâve found myself with a group of players that are not available,â said Poyet. âIn the past, it was maybe one or two. âThe good thing about the injuries, if there is something good, is that they are all different. âItâs not a pattern to worry about. âWe need to make sure there is a bit of luck and make sure the squad responds to the absence of these players. âItâs different timescales and theyâre going to come back slowly.â
Aye. The last fullback we got from on loan from Napoli was Dossena so i hope hes better than him! Looks like Vergini will be back on the right tomorow with Wes coming back in.
