The Saudis are more interested in building their own league than Newcastle United. Newcastle is just a small investment and until we see something significant here there's nothing to assume otherwise.
Spending to the maximum allowed, affiliated sponsorships to the maximum allowed, large number of additions to scouting team, huge new kit deal, exploring stadium options... Essentially, is it just Howe that is making you all sulky?
it's just common sense that they're building a football league using billions and that is going to be more important than a small club purchase in England. Newcastle is a small investment of many. Surely you can understand that ?
Newcastle, like Man City, are starting a journey to be a dominant club. There are more hurdles today than previously, but the goal is to build a football group and the PL is and will always be the richest, most watched league in the World. No amount of Saudi money in their own league will change that. There has to be a figurehead team at the top of the pyramid, which just happens to be Newcastle. The scope for Newcastle is similar to City. Both are similarly sized clubs at the comparative journey stage. Newcastle arguably have a bit more appeal just through reputation, with City living under the Utd shadow for so long. The investment needed into Newcastle to make it a European force is insignificant to Saudi. That Aramco alone is valued at well over $1Tn says enough. They would like a more competitive league but that will take a lot of time to build out and isn't really related to creating a Magpie Group or whatever it'll be. The Saudi's want the best golf, the best F1, the best World Cup, the best league, the best club (us). None of these are mutually exclusive.
We're going to find out whether it works, but I personally don't think Newcastle will ever win the Premier league.
Ha, that's my MO. Besides I think Eddie Howe has been very poor this season, without going on and on about that again. The football side of the operation is showing a lot of small minded naivety, which is juxtaposed to the commercial side where Eales and Silverstone are doing excellent work. It's telling that Eales has stepped in to the Ashworth situation. I suspect things will start to change, I said so before, and Staveley will be pushed out from football and a more impactful DoF will appear. Paul Mitchell is the name touted the most.
I agree with almost everything. But I definitely don’t think Staveley will be gone unless Saudi decide she is being too loyal to Howe. That all depends on how this season ends, how next season starts and how ruthless she can be if it doesn’t start well. Commercially and off the field the club is moving in the right direction. The progress on the field has been colossal given where we were. But the season has stagnated to a degree.
So are you and I'm confident in my assessment.. I suppose the other argument is that they care about both just as much, but I don’t think so because the level of investment is poles apart. If you own a house and a packet of crisps your house comes 1st.
