We as reds support a club that the late great Bill Shankly dragged up from division two and built a platform for the many trophies and successes that followed him and his time in charge at LFC. [h=2]He made the people happy[/h] please log in to view this image Bill Shankly when asked how he would like to be remembered:"That I've been basically honest in a game in which it is sometimes difficult to be honest. Sometimes youâve got to tell a little white lie to get over a little troublesome period of time. I'd like to think that I have put more into the game than I have taken out. And that I havenât cheated anybody, that I've been working for people honestly all along the line, for the people of Liverpool who go to Anfield. I'd like to be recognised for trying to give them entertainment. I'd played at Anfield and I knew the crowd were fantastic. I knew there was a public just waiting. So I fought the battles inside and outside. I was interested in only one thing, success for the club. And that meant success for the people. I wanted results for the club, for the love of the game, to make the people happy." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [h=4]Shanks quote[/h]"It was the most difficult thing in the world, when I went to tell the chairman. It was like walking to the electric chair. That's the way it felt." Bill Shankly on the leaving of Liverpool Thank you and and happy 100th Shanks.
please log in to view this image My only regret is that I wasn't around to experience the great man myself
I met the great man Dev and was in awe of him, he wasn't like todays prima donna managers, he'd go to the shops or watch the Jnr footy on whats now known as Shankly's field close to where he lived. Totally approachable and a true man of the people.
I've watched and read many many things about him, wish I could have witnessed it myself. Same goes for Paisley too
He was unique. I loved him then and I love him now. But note that whilst he wanted his side to massacre any side they played against, he respected every side and every manager he played against.
So its your fecking fault My Grandad always talked about him (God bless him My grandad that is and Shanks ) He has to be looking down on us on Sun surely? Good thread PMK
Does it matter that we haven't won a title in over 20 years? Well yes it does. However, Shanks built such a great institution that we can fill a 100,000 stadium halfway round th world with our supporters all singing YNWA. Now there's a testimony to what he achieved that's relevant today!!
Very true Dave, even through the 'lean' times we are still in the top 10 richest football clubs in the world and as you say we can attract 90+k support for a friendly.
FSG are banking on FFP being implemented and working DR because their financial strategy for our club is built around it, but if clubs find a way around it that leaves us further behind.
Yeah did you see the latest interview? They pretty much stated they wouldnt have bought us had ffp not been set up to be implemented. They've stated that before as well I just dont think it'll be properly enforced
Neither do i(the 'big clubs')rule Europe and not Uefa, which points to us being sold yet again in the not to distant future.
Well I know what you're saying, I just think though FSG have took it upon themselves to get us bk up there (personal challenge) but I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to the money doesnt it
I know a lot of reds are happy with them and thats ok with me, but John Henry has always talked about us in financial terms rather than heritage etc, ok i'm in the minority but until they actually 'put their house' on us i won't totally believe their intentions. I hate us being part of a 'group/franchise', i'd much rather our owner/owners had only us to concentrate their time and wealth on.
I think they've had their fingers burned with the Torres cash to be honest mate, again I know what you're saying, it'd be great if they could pump everything into us Dont forget though they saved us when we were mins away, mins away from sinking so we always owe them for that Every now and again a rumour appears about them selling us but its not been true thus far. I dont want a sugar daddy though, I always like it the hard way (ooooo matron). Chavs have no respect, they're a joke of a club. Fancy Rafa winning them a cup and getting them into cl again That really annoys me that. The **** they gave him ****ing disgraceful
