Now we've joked about it and had a good laugh at the binners demise but after seeing the nature of that defeat the other day and the performances in the last few weeks they look very weak. We are now looking at the distinct possibility that they will go down. the question is: Do we want them to go down? How would they cope financially with a relegation to the 3rd tier? How would the fans/attendances suffer? Who would want to manage them if Jewell went now? What players can they hope to attract in January? Some elements seem remarkably similar to when we were relegated to League one. I'm not sure how I feel really. I miss derby day but thats not on us, thats on them. If they don't act now it will do serious damage to the club, possibly permanent
Yeah, the similarities between the two positions are unmissable. I think the key thing is if they replace Clegg/Evans with someone who has a plan for the future (if we're feeling generous we could dust of our 7 year plan and donate that). Replacing Jewell isn't going to stop the rot of the last few years. They're hugely dependent on loans right now, and they won't be able to get the same calibre of loanee in League 1, so are going to have to give youth a chance. If they survive, I think it'll take them longer to get back to being competitive in the championship (or higher) because they won't stop the rot without a big shock to the system. Thinking short-term rather than long-term, they need to sack the manager, get a fan favourite in, ditch Clegg, drop ticket prices to boost attendances, and reunite everyone behind the club. If they do it before the end of the season, I think they'll survive, if they don't, then it has to happen over the summer. If they do change the manager, it has to happen in the next few weeks. The manager needs time to assess his squad, then decide who he wants to bring in in January, leaving it until the end of January or later is pointless.
Do we want them to go down? Yes, we can then laugh at them the same way they laughed at us when we went down, how I look fondly back to the times they were waving money at us, how things have changed. How would they cope financially with a relegation to the 3rd tier? Bankruptcy again when Marcus Evans pulls the plug leaving local businesses and the St Johns Ambulance out of pocket again. How would the fans/attendances suffer? It has already started, they only got 16,434 for the visit of Cardiff, every time I see them on the TV it looks as if most of the crowd have come dressed as a blue plastic seat. Who would want to manage them if Jewell went now? Glen Roeder What players can they hope to attract in January? More journeymen loanees, it's all they can attract at the moment.
To be honest, I would like to see them in the Prem with us. Nothing better than a derby day, I have to say. As long as we finish higher though.
Good questions. I think after their reaction to our relegation to the third tier of English football it's totally fair game for a Norwich fan to want them to be relegated, only so they have the exact same feelings of anger, depression, helplessness and despair which we had when faced with the same scenario. As a club I wouldn't want them to go out business or anything they employ people who have to pay bills and put food on the table I wouldn't wish that on anyone rivalry aside. If I was an Ipswich fan (thank god I'm not) what would worry me the most is Marcus Evans, by all means his a rich man but cheque books don't fix broken clubs and these moneymen eventually get impatient and bored. His secretive quiet and shadowy you don't know where his loyalty lies and I think he has employed a dreadful team to run the club for him. I've seen Norwich destroy itself due the boards naivety but we addressed our problems and ran ourselves like a business, our owners are passionate about the club we have the right people in the right place and we're proactive. Ipswich need their own David McNally if their to improve as a club.
